Exploring Life & Business with Amanda Dyer of Landslide Creative

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Dyer.

Hi Amanda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I wanted to own a business for as long as I can remember, and I was always coming up with little businesses as a kid. I was also artistic and lots of my early business ventures involved some form of art or design. In high school, I started playing with Photoshop and making websites. I was then thrilled to learn that MTSU has a digital media degree, and all my hobbies could also be a career path. At MTSU, I became friends with Josh Jenkins, who would later become my business partner.

After graduation, I worked on an in-house marketing team and later for an international nonprofit. At the same time, Josh and I founded Landslide Creative and did website and design projects on the side. Eventually, we decided it was time to leave our full-time jobs and grow our business. It made me nervous at the time to leave the security of a corporate job, but I’m so glad I took the leap!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Thankfully, the road has mostly been smooth. I took a very slow path to entrepreneurship, testing the waters along the way. Early on, I continued working full-time while building up clients and a portfolio. Then I took a part-time job, which gave me more time to work on the business but still ensured some stability. I finally took the plunge to full-time several years ago. It was often challenging to juggle a full-time job and a side gig, but I was highly motivated by the goal of growing Landslide. It was also a great way to learn many of the ins and outs of business management when mistakes were probably not going to be catastrophic.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Landslide Creative?
Landslide Creative specializes in custom website design and development for mission-driven organizations. We define a mission-driven organization as any company or nonprofit working to be a positive force in our world. We love partnering with teams that are guided by an important purpose and making our communities better. Ultimately, we want to use our skills and expertise to help organizations achieve their mission.

Our product is unique because we only do custom websites. That means every project is built specifically for the needs of the client, based on their unique brand and goals. We always start with what we call a LaunchPlan, where we develop the strategic plan for the website to ensure it will achieve the results the client needs.

We’re a small team, which means we work hands-on with every project, and can really get to know our clients.
