Hi Andres, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello! My name is Andres Gonzalez. I was born in 1994 in coconut grove Miami, Fl. At the age of 3, I moved to Guatemala for family business and family. I have always been an innovative and entrepreneurial person.
At the age of 8, I started riding a horse and I was introduced to an equestrian sport where my passion was Edurance. My first company was in 2013, SOS Animal Healing in which I made products for my own horses and sold them. The second company was in 2014, Bali Organics & Co. I dedicated myself to launch SunBLock skincare products and more.
When I entered the university in 2015, these companies were just starting up but I could not maintain them since, due to my ADHD, DYSLEXIA and LD (Learning Differences), I had to put more effort into my studies than my companies. I got pretty sad when I couldn’t find a partner and had to close them down.
Upon graduating from Business Administration college, I started looking for a job and guess what? all companies seek staff with more than 5 years of experience which I did not have. In Guatemala, work experience is worth more than a university degree. So I gave myself the task of exploring new territories and took a one-way flight to Miami, to see what the future held for me.
I started looking for a job and I couldn’t find something that I’m passionate about. One day while talking to my pillow I remembered that several years ago I had a personal fitness trainer every day, and I knew that I could help train people to generate health in them. And so it was in 2019 I bought a NY franchise called GYMGUYZ. Then in 2021 we had to pause the company due to COVID-19. And I asked myself? What am I good at? Am I looking for a job again? Well, and when I said to myself, you know what other things you’re good at, whenever I went to a party I was in charge of liquor cocktails and everything that had liquor.
Then it occurred to me to innovate in a new formula of liquor that did not exist in the market. In 2021, I launched my new company VIVA CASA, which created a tequila blend of honey and vanilla, which I named TULUM REPOSADO, is inspired by the beaches of TULUM MEXICO and is made in MIAMI.
Currently, I want to introduce TULUM REPOSADO to more cities and the first one on my list is Nashville. The Country Music City and tech to which I want to offer an experience of Central America and the Caribbean in a bottle.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think the biggest bar I had was the language, since I had to reinforce my English. I moved to a country that has a different culture and adapted without knowing anyone and not having friends nearby.
