Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur and be my own boss. In 2019, things were getting rough on my 9-5 job and COVID-19 was starting to spread expeditiously! As a single mom in a city with little to no help, there were many challenges. I was forced to come up with an immediate plan. I started doing research to see what area of business I would excel best in when I came across candles. I’ve always had a creative eye and a love for candles being lit. I began to make them as a hobby to escape my everyday life. I tried different techniques and knew I wanted to make candles that were over the top and not just your ordinary candle. My friends and family were blown away and pushed me to start a business. Lit Southern Wicks Candle Co. was then formed on June 15, 2020. Jumpstart to 2021, from online sales, sold out events, and many supporters, Lit Southern Wicks has been a great success.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning Lit Southern Wicks hasn’t always been so smooth. Many challenges have arose over the year of being in business. Like any business, there are many challenges. Being the owner, social media manager, production team, etc., I’m only one person and doing everything to make sure business runs smoothly can be a bit much. Making sure the relevancy of a business stays alive is pretty tough when juggling your personal life as well.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Lit Southern Wicks is a candle company based out of Nashville, TN, offering hand-poured wax milkshake and dessert-inspired candles. They are made with 100% soy, paraffin, and gel wax mixed with natural fragrance oils. As the owner and creator of LSW, I specialize and enjoy making custom candles. Whenever a supporter thinks of a crazy candle idea, they run to me and I proudly deliver. LSW candles aren’t just your everyday candles that you see in stores; we are set apart because we have such a unique intertwine between food and fragrance. From sports, decorative candles, schools, organizations, etc., you name it; any custom candle, I can create it.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising to others about my work/ brand is that I’m extremely hard on myself and very critical of the work I put out. What may look amazing to others could look terrible in my eyes and make me feel like I should have went ten times harder and put more effort into it.
