Today we’d like to introduce you to April Maria
Hi April, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Who is April Maria? The Femme Fatale.. Mama.. I am known by many names. On social media many know me as a model and one that is not afraid to put creative ideas to the test. My entrepreneur mind and artist heart seem to keep viewers guessing at what my team and I will come up with next. Today, I have decided to open up to Nashville Voyage 🙂
My journey started as many others; from a small town in Southern Indiana. I grew up in poverty, raised primarily by a strong willed, single grandmother, Judy Kay. As one could imagine, a grandmother from Southern Indiana is quite conservative and opinionated. She was known as “Judge Judy” to the town locals. Use that reference in comparison to the day time talk-show “Judge Judy” and let that help you set the scene.
Upon becoming an adult, and to this day, I chuckle at the spats the two of us would get into when I was growing up. She was extremely hard on me. Even more of that than my siblings. Growing up, I never knew why. When I became a mother myself and began to get older, I asked her one day, “Maw-maw, ( A Southern grandma’s name), why were you so hard on me growing up? “. She replied “I was much harder on you, April, because I see your potential. There is something in you, that can do great things.’ I did not know what her words meant then, but I do now.
When I was 17 years old, I became a teen mom. It completely changed my life. The backlash was hard from small town society. When I had my oldest son, something in myself changed. Nothing mattered anymore, but his well being. Through perseverance, and against the odds, I still went on to achieve multiple certifications, and a Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University. I completed many multi-international cultural humanitarian projects, and landed a minor in Spanish.
I am an ex-military spouse, and during that time, was stationed overseas in Japan for three years. While in Japan, I was blessed with the opportunity to be signed with multiple modeling agencies , giving myself beginner experience and insight. Once back in the United States, I signed as a model with different agencies, and began to work on my modeling skills. Modeling led to designing and editing.
After working through the trenches of healthcare and social services, from the bottom up, I found my passion for women care and mental health. Helping to run a small private practice, gave me the confidence to start my own business as a Notary Public and Real Estate Closing Agent. Once I had proven to myself that I could manage, I turned my creative and artistic passion into the brand “Femme Fatale Empire”.
Through my journey of being a young mother, and facing the trials of life, I have learned so much along the way. To be able to give that knowledge back now feels like such a privilege. The journey began trying to find myself, and now I am blessed to be able to help other women find themselves, and feel confident everyday. Creating FFE has been a therapeutic outlet and platform to support women internationally.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is life ever a smooth road? LOL
Seriously, though? What is life without the struggle? There will always be cons in every business. The trick is to find a job that does not feel like work 🙂
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
FFE specializes in women swimwear. I have strived for FFE to be comfortable to wear, but sexy. As a model and designer, I have insight that many others might not, having never been on the other side of the fence. At Femme Fatale Empire, what sets us apart are our termed runway models and ambassadors, known as “Fembots” and “FFE Baddies”.
“Fembot” is the stereotypical robot of what a woman should be. Here at Femme Fatale Empire, we are women, who each decide, who they will be. Our empire gives women a platform to unite as sisters. We support each other in our individual journeys as “Baddies”. Being the CEO of FFE, and what we stand for makes me extremely proud.
