Exploring Life & Business with April Peters LMT, CT of Body In Focus Thermography

Today we’d like to introduce you to April Peters LMT, CT.

Hi April, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My professional journey is profoundly rooted in my experience as a mother. Everything changed when my son received a diagnosis of systemic mastocytosis, a rare condition. Being the only child at Vanderbilt with that diagnosis was both scary and incredibly isolating. It forced me to look beyond conventional treatments and ask deeper, alternative questions. My focus shifted from simply “fixing” a problem to truly understanding how to support his body, nervous system, and emotional well-being on a fundamental level.

That search led me to a more holistic way of living and eventually into massage therapy. Studying the body in such an intimate, hands-on way was incredibly humbling. It deepened my respect for the body’s intelligence and resilience. For the last 13 years, I’ve run a small, successful massage clinic. Working hands-on and following my clients’ health journeys has revealed how profound healing can be when someone feels genuinely safe, seen, and supported.

As my practice grew, I sought a way to gain a clearer picture of the “why” behind the physical tension I was treating. This led me to medical thermography, a tool that allows me to see the invisible and map out areas of heat and congestion that may point to the true root cause of an issue. My work today is a natural evolution of that original maternal search for answers. Just as I had to become the ultimate advocate for my son’s health, I now use this technology to help my clients become advocates for their own health, providing the clarity they need to take informed, decisive charge of their well-being.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly? Not always. The biggest challenge has been balancing all my roles: being a compassionate practitioner, a solo business owner, all while maintaining a work-life balance.

On the one hand, I’m guiding women through some really sensitive concerns. The work starts with a hurdle: medical thermography isn’t widely understood, so women often walk in with a mix of fear, confusion, and anxiety about their breast health. That means my job isn’t just the service itself; it’s also educating that thermography isn’t about diagnosis or instant answers—it’s about monitoring breast health over time and listening to what the body may be signaling early on. That requires education, patience, and trust, both from clients and from me as their clinical thermographer. Shifting the conversation from fear-based urgency to proactive, informed awareness hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been incredibly meaningful.

But then, as a solopreneur, I’m also wearing all the hats—and I mean all of them. The real struggle is the work-life balance. Juggling that deep, client-focused role with the never-ending admin, marketing, running the household as a homeschool mom, and giving time to the community through volunteering… but honestly, it’s also what makes the successes so meaningful and has really clarified why I do this work.

As you know, we’re big fans of Body In Focus Thermography. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Body In Focus Thermography, we’re all about giving people a clearer, proactive picture of what’s happening inside their bodies using safe, non-invasive procedures. We use medical-grade thermal imaging to map out heat patterns and inflammation, essentially acting as a “pre-warning” system for your health. While we’re well-known for proactive breast health monitoring, we offer comprehensive imaging for the entire body. Our technology is designed to identify thermal irregularities related to inflammation affecting your vascular, lymphatic, sympathetic, and myofascial systems.

What sets us apart? It’s the powerful combination of medical-grade technology developed by Med-Hot Infrared Imaging, as well as clinical expertise. We utilize a fully FDA 510(k)-cleared system, featuring the most advanced infrared camera on the market paired with TotalVision™ medical application software. But we don’t stop at the tech—we’ve built strong partnerships with leading functional doctors in the area who regularly welcome us into their practices to host on-site imaging clinics. Every report we produce is interpreted by a team of trained MDs, DOs, or Licensed Naturopathic Physicians, ensuring you receive medical-grade insights rather than just a set of images.

We want you to know that we are here to support you, not to fuel fear. We are not “anti-mammogram”—we believe you are your own best health advocate and we respect whatever path you choose for your body. We strive for total transparency: medical thermography is a powerful discovery tool, but it is not diagnostic. Being honest about the technology’s scope saves our clients time and money and builds true clinical integrity. Whether you are tracking a specific health journey or establishing a wellness baseline, we provide the insights you need to take proactive charge of your health.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Success is never a solo effort; for us, it is built on a foundation of faith that guides every family and business decision we make. I owe so much to my husband and children, who have been my unwavering cheerleaders, always asking, “What do you want to do now?” and supporting every evolution of my career.

Professionally, I feel incredibly fortunate to have trained under the groundwork laid by Med-Hot founder Dr. Carol Chandler and master thermographer, Kristin Burton. Dr. Carol pioneered the field and paved the way for modern thermographers, and developed the revolutionary Med-Hot software systems we use today. Kristin developed a training system that ensures professional and FDA-compliant thermography practices and protocols. I am also proud to be a part of the Institute for the Advancement of Medical Thermography, which connects thermographers worldwide. They support members through education and shared resources, ensuring we stay at the forefront of the industry. Lastly, our success is shared with the local physicians who partner with us; their trust in this technology allows us to provide life-changing insights to our community every day.
