Exploring Life & Business with Ashlee Hall of Black Sheep Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlee Hall.

Hi Ashlee, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
When I was a young girl, my mother would often take my sisters and me out of school early to go shopping!

I believe that is where my love for fashion began. She always dressed us nicely and made sure we were put together before we left the house. I loved fashion so much that I decided to study it in college. I graduated from MTSU with a degree in Textiles, Merchandising, and Design with a minor in Marketing.

In my last semester of college, I studied abroad in London, England and my love for fashion grew even more! After returning home I took an internship in NYC with Diane Von Furstenburg. I loved the fashion industry but quickly discovered I loved my hometown even more and wanted to be close to family so after a year I moved home. Once returning home I bounced around from job to job trying to find my place. I finally landed a management position at a local gift shop and worked there for 8 years.

For those 8 years, I was a part of helping a local store grow and prosper into an established business. It was my passion and I loved every minute of it. When the pandemic hit, I spent 4 months at home because the store was forced to close its doors. During that time I started to entertain a dream that I had had for many years, and that was to open my own boutique business and help dress women in my community.

“One day” turned into now. So I took the plunge left my job and started my own online boutique business. I am currently running the business out of my home in Gallatin and attending local popup markets. I have been in business for myself for one year this month and I absolutely love what I do!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Although it was exciting, it was a little frustrating at times when I first started the business. I had been on cruise control for so long that learning something new (e-commerce) was challenging.

I am still in the trial and error stages and honestly have accepted that is what business is. Especially in fashion. It is ever-changing and you have to be able to adapt and try new things or you will get left behind.

Black Sheep Boutique is a brand of quirky quality where you can find everything from a housewarming gift for your bestie to a stylish dress for date night! Black Sheep is dedicated to offering customers unique one-of-a-kind pieces and top-notch service both online + in person!

I like offering styles that all ages and sizes can wear and feel comfortable in. With that being said I try to cater to the curvy woman that is not plus size. I feel that I fall into that category and it can be frustrating when shopping.

Especially when you are looking for something on-trend. I also like to offer one on one shopping experiences at my house by appointment. And sip and shop parties! The parties are so fun! I provide wine and snacks while shopping at my house, or I can come to you!

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I was born and raised in Gallatin, TN. I love the rolling hills of Tennessee and how we often have a chance to experience all four seasons. I also love the southern hospitality and how most people you meet are friendly.

I do not like how much the city is growing and the traffic that has caused.
