Exploring Life & Business with Ashley Green of PureTalent Management

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Green.

Hi Ashley, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My daughters are both child actors. As their mom, I have been supporting them on this journey for the past 5 years. It has been so much fun to learn about the entertainment industry through their experiences.

We have been so fortunate to have an incredible team surrounding us. Their management company is PureTalent Management and their Agency is Clear Talent Group, both based out of Los Angeles.

In the Summer of 2021, I was personally seeking something for “me”. I was feeling a void. I had dedicated my 30s to raising my girls. I had been focusing most of my time and energy on helping them achieve their goals and dreams and lost a part of myself somewhere in the process. After much reflection and prayer, an amazing thing happened!

Katrina Herlong, my daughter’s manager confided in me that she was looking to expand her successful Los Angeles-based management company to the east coast. What came next was a pleasant surprise! Katrina said she had thought long and hard and had prayed for the “right” person to take this on… and that person was ME! The next things out of my mouth were… What? Me? Really? Do you think I would be good at it? That sounds like fun!

The more we talked, the more I realized this is exactly what I had also been praying to be revealed to me. I initially said, “maybe”, haha! “If you believe in me, I should too!” “I know this industry from a mom’s perspective, but I need to come to shadow you and see it from your point of view.”

And that’s what I did! About a month later I was in Los Angeles working with Katrina from our PureTalent Management Office. By the end of the week, it was clear to both of us that this was the perfect fit! It was meant to be! I flew back to Nashville, rejuvenated, empowered, challenged and so very excited for the future. I felt a sense of self that had been missing for a while! And like they say… the rest is history!

On January 1, 2022, PureTalent Management Southeast went live! I’m happy to report that I am currently managing 45 “PurelyTalented” clients from our Brentwood, TN location! I represent talented youth and adults from across the nation! I feel so blessed to be a part of such an inspiring, supportive female-owned company. At the age of 43, I have found my passion and I couldn’t be more grateful!

The future is VERY bright!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The two biggest challenges so far have been time management and Covid-19 protocols.

1. Being a full-time mom for the past 13 years has, for lack of a better word “spoiled” my family when it comes to my attention and time. Now that I’m juggling a career and family, things are a little different. Mom needs more help! haha! The girls have had to become a little more independent.

My husband also has a very demanding job. We are both very busy and are still learning to navigate both of us having work and family obligations. Thankfully, both my husband and children are very supportive and see how much joy my work gives me.

2. Covid-19 threw the world a curveball and the entertainment industry was no different. Most all productions are mandatory ZONE A. Meaning everyone must be fully vaccinated on set. Even children ages 5 and up fall into this regulation. That has been tough.

Some families and individuals still don’t feel comfortable receiving the vaccine. With this said, it’s very difficult as a manager to help those actors succeed under the current protocols. That has been difficult for me because I want all my clients to audition and work as much as possible.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I wear two hats, Mom and Manager. Therefore, I can give advice from bothering perspectives.

Find someone trustworthy, experienced, and a person/team your child feels safe and comfortable with. Do your research! Ask others in the industry that you trust for opinions and advice. Read and understand everything you sign. Don’t spend a ton of money! Appropriate expenses would be professional headshots, self-taping equipment, and reputable coaching.

Ask your manager, agent, or successful actor friends for a list of headshot photographers and acting coaches before splurging. TAKE CLASSES! Even the most experienced actors train! Just like any sport or instrument… you must practice to get better and stay in the game! Start following management companies, agencies, and casting directors on social media. They give great advice.

BE PATIENT! Our culture is so used to immediate gratification. The entertainment industry is the opposite! You will get more no’s than yes’s. There is a lot of hurry up and wait. And there are times when there is no explanation why or why not. And you just have to keep moving forward.
