Exploring Life & Business with Audrey Jefferson of Got Nails University

Today we’d like to introduce you to Audrey Jefferson.

Hi Audrey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started doing nails very young. I did my grandmother nails, Lee press on Nails to be exact. Every week it was our routine at her hair salon appointment at Catherine’s, in north Nashville. Nails has been my passion since then. I went to manicurist school at Tennessee Technology School & really started this nail journey from there. I had a nail salon on West End Ave, called Got Nails Nailtique, early 2000s. I love that area in Nashville, very diverse & welcoming. I enjoyed having my business over there. I love nature so I loved being close to Centennial Park.

2006 I moved to Houston, Tx & started my nail journey. It was so difficult at first but I kept on pushing & believing in myself. Branding & marketing took my business to heights I couldn’t imagine. I went to nail instructor school & that’s when it hit me “I have to open a nail school”.  My new dream of becoming a cosmetology nail school owner began & now I am here! My client believed in me & invested in my dream & now I am open with 15 students! I love every minute of it. Being able to teach my 30 year craft to people who are so driven & determined to learn is amazing & a true blessing. It’s a win win for all of us. I’m so thankful that my client felt my dream in her heart to want to be involved. Relationships means everything in entrepreneurship.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was not smooth at first being a new school owner with no training on how to truly teach & impact people. I had to learn that on my own. Yes, in school we get taught different learning styles but I needed to really know how to truly support & impact others. Alongside of that, I didn’t know anything about the administration side of things. That’s the ultimate struggle. I personally am I high school dropout so I have been grinding for so long I never got to learn that type of stuff but I was determined to learn. Still today I have struggles but my drive to learn & succeed oversees any struggles I have. It gets better daily & I really do surprise myself with the minor accomplishments I make daily. You have to learn how to congratulate yourself in order to really take yourself to the next level.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We’re a Houston nail technician school that brings you the perfect mixture of nail salon life, on-the-job education, and real-life information. The prime mission of our program is to set each of our students up for a flourishing career in the nail technician industry. We offer students the chance to train in a lively atmosphere that offers all the exciting and sometimes, unexpected scenarios that occur at large, high-end salons. In addition, our school is designed to advance your business, service, and technical skills, so that you’re fully prepared for long-term success after graduating our nail technician program.

How do you think about happiness?
Making me happy is to really see others happy & to thrive. I get to witness it with my students when they accomplish tasks. I see the smile on their faces & I feel like I can conquer the world because of that. It’s the small things that bring joy to my heart. Being an instructor makes me happy. Being able to teach people a trade where they can easily make 6 figures & be able to take care of their family is the best feeling. I have a lot of single mothers as students & I get to witness them become leaders & bosses. It’s truly amazing
