Hi Caleb, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Lakeland Building Partners is a licensed and insured general contracting firm locally owned and operated. The Founders, Caleb Gaw and Bryan Morales, grew up in Nashville and call this city home as true locals. Lakeland expresses its passion for this city through building a better Nashville one project at a a time. The founders combined their knowledge for constructions and real estate to found the company from scratch and are building the organization one project and one referral at a time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business, especially in construction, is never easy. The job entails managing countless problems and variables, some that are entirely out of your control. But Lakeland has continually learned and evolved from past projects to integrate better systems, process, and people to ensure each project is better than the last. The beauty of a small business is you can turn on a dime when a problem arises. And when problems arise, the founders have taken immediate action to improve or fix that problem.

We’ve been impressed with Lakeland Building Partners, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Lakeland is owned and founded by two locals to the Nashville area with a shared passion for real estate and construction. Caleb Gaw came from a background in new construction and real estate and is currently attending law school at the Nashville School of Law. Bryan Morales was raised in the construction industry and has over 14 years of experience before the age of 30. The two come from different areas of the same industry but have combined their strengths to form a successful business that is constantly improving.

When you work with Lakeland, you are getting a young, experienced, and driven team with a positive attitude, a thirst for knowledge, and a passion to build a better Nashville.

Lakeland is a fully licensed and insured general contracting firm in both residential and small commercial construction. We have taken on a wide variety of projects from house flipping, kitchen and bathroom renovations, insurance restoration, and multifamily construction. Our true specialty however is working with the real estate community to build new homes and restore / renovate existing homes to breathe new life into the neighborhood.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Mentorship and networking are two core pillars of any successful business. You need to learn from those who came before you and you need a community of people who know who you are and what you do. Lakeland is fortunate to have two key mentors that have decades of experience and have their own successful multi-million dollar construction companies. We are also members of multiple networking groups and organizations around the Nashville area.

A mentor is so important because no matter how much planning you do, there will always be problems that arise you cannot anticipate. Mentors help you navigate unanticipated problems and impart wisdom from their experiences. Although it may be our first time handling an unexpected issue, it’s almost always an issue a mentor has already overcome. You need people in your corner for mentorship because you as a business owner need wisdom to guide your decision making. No wisdom leads to poor decisions. And poor decisions leads to disaster.

Networking groups are one of the most useful tools for direct marketing and sales you and can get for the dollar spent. Multiple projects since we started can be credited back to a referral or a direct lead from a networking group. It is a low cost form of gorilla marketing that can drive immediate business into your door without you needing to cross your fingers that your google ad spend, social media advertising, or billboards will work.
