Exploring Life & Business with Chance Smith of Peace Love and Grub

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chance Smith.

Hi Chance, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
To quote Drake – “Started from the bottom now we’re here…” LOL. On the heels of a career spanning almost 20 years that saw me go from dishwasher to Chef, to Vice President of Culinary, the exhaustion was unreal. I was working 80+ hours a week, traveling across the country, and missing out on watching my four boys grow up.

It was sad, my wife (who happens to be my muse and best friend) was essentially a single parent 3/4 of the year. I ended up having a serious health crisis as the hours, travel, and stress caught up to me and suffered a seizure as a result. Our dreams of owning our own business all of the sudden became front of mind.

We literally decided one night to quit it all, launch our business, and hit the gas pedal… all the way down! We had enough money in the bank to last about two weeks, so it was a five-alarm fire lit under us to succeed, and quick!!!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road of the entrepreneur is filled with as many potholes as our beloved Nashville’s I-65. We have learned a lot about ourselves and what it takes to be successful in this new world!

The struggles, if I were to call them that, are navigating branding, marketing, inflation, and ultimately managing a profitable business in a strange economic landscape. I don’t focus on the struggles; if struggle builds muscle then I am getting ripped!

We have been successful in spite of these things and I think it all boils down to the partnership my wife, Stephanie, and I share in the business. She is my sounding board and Google expert. We share the load and have a ferocity about success that is unrivaled.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Peace Love and Grub is obsessed with uniting families and friends at the dinner table.

We provide weekly meal deliveries, private dinner parties, and staff full-time private chefs for individual households. In each of our endeavors, the end result is the same- empowering our hosts to live life to the fullest and reclaim the dinner table!

Listen, there are a million incredibly talented Chefs out there. There are services akin to ours out there, sure… But ours is one that goes beyond a commodity. It is more than a meal solution. With us, you get an experience. With us, you get a connection that goes beyond a quick meal in your belly.

We strive to provide Peace. Love. Grub…

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Apps!? I use a ton… I’m going the boring route and saying Grammarly is my favorite today.

Podcast- My First Million, Serial Killers (I know), Hardcore History

Books- Oh boy. I go from Nozick’s “Anarchy, State, and Utopia” to “The Easter Bunny Comes to Tennesee” without breaking a sweat. Nothing beats Kerouac though.

You can’t ask for a better couple. They believe in each other! They can plan, cook, and present. Chef Chance loves to be “on-stage” with his culinary skills, and she just smiles as he shows his skills.
