Exploring Life & Business with CJ Colas

Today we’d like to introduce you to CJ Colas.

Hi CJ, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Hello, I started my nonprofit after I was diagnosed with stage 3 uterine cancer that already spread to my lungs. I started blogging about uterine cancer but it lead me to starting a 501) c)3 nonprofit to help cancer patient called The TeamCJColas Uterine Cancer Foundation.

I realize there was little to no information on uterine cancer available to the community. Uterine Cancer is one of the most common type of cancer in women. It is more common in Caucasian women but more black women die each day from uterine cancer.

I wanted to bring awareness and let women of color know how serious it is in our communities.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it haven’t been a smooth road starting a nonprofit because it’s hard to get funding, sponsorships, and collaborations. Especially during Covid when a lot of businesses are dealing with hard times, it’s hard for them to support nonprofits.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My store sells women clothing. It’s a way to help women feel beautiful regardless of their situation.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love Nashville, people are nice but I don’t like the cold weather. I am from Miami and I prefer Miami’s weather over snow. Lol
