Exploring Life & Business with Cody Nash of Nash Family Creamery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Nash.

Hi Cody, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Nash Family Creamery’s origins date back to 1929 when our family dairy first began in central California. 3 generations later in 2013 and with the herd size increased from an initial few cows to 1,200, 3rd generation Steve Nash relocated the dairy to its current location in Tennessee. The area’s business-friendly climate and lack of regulation made for greener pastures in middle Tennessee. In 2020 the now fourth-generation dairy farming family opened Nash Family Creamery. The creamery has been in business with Cody Nash making small-batch premium ice cream for a little over a year now. The creamery also boasts fresh baked goods, local Pick TN farm products, gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, and seasonal activities including a corn maze, craft vendor days, and festivals. Mid-summer 2021 we started production at our cheese facility. This cheese is made in small batches with milk from our dairy farm and is right next door to the creamery. There are viewing windows at the cheese plant so if visitors arrive early enough (production typically runs 6 am-3 pm weekdays) they can see our cheese being made.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Moving the farm across country was a big challenge for the family as the whole herd was transported to the new farm in Tennessee. Starting the creamery in the middle of the Covid-19 was also challenging as supply chain issues slowed construction and we honestly didn’t know with the virus how much traffic we would get. We’ve been blessed and the business is doing better than we ever expected.

As you know, we’re big fans of Nash Family Creamery. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We’re most proud of the quality of product and service we offer. It’s a top priority to offer the highest quality ice cream, cheese, food, and merchandise that makes people want to visit us again. As a farming family, it has also been a joy to put a face to farming. Many people nowadays are generations removed from farming and where food originates so it’s a positive for the farming community to help educate consumers through the creamery and events we offer here.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We always appreciate people sharing their experience they have after visiting the creamery. As a small business that is still fairly new, word of mouth is a huge help to the creamery. We are starting to retail our ice cream and newly launched cheese product line at other locations so asking market managers to carry Nash Family Creamery products would be great. In the past, we have done collaborations with other events on unique ice cream flavors. This past Summer we even did a flavor collaboration with Edible Nashville – sweet corn ice cream.

I live around a mile from Nash Family Creamery. I have tried several of their grilled cheese combination sandwiches and all are good. I think my favorite is the jalapeño grilled cheese. The waffle cones and waffle bowls are made on site along with the ice cream. The ice cream is so good. There are so many flavors to choose from and they are constantly bringing out seasonal flavors. I highly recommend checking them out.
