Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Kowalske. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Courtney Kowalske has lived in Nashville, TN, since 2013. She has primarily held a career in corporate sales with companies such as Cintas First Aid & Safety, Bloomberg, and The Precisionists, where she helped win job opportunities & future career paths for adults on the autism spectrum. In every job and every friend group, she was always known as the “go-to girl” when organizing closets, pantries, and e-mail/workflow systems. You name it; someone was asking how to manage it. Her biggest inspiration has always been her father. He was a single father and a successful business owner of a 300-employee windows & doors manufacturing company. When she was 16, her father hired her over the summer to re-organize some of his executive offices and the central file system.
“Growing up, I knew I wanted to own a business like my father, but I never knew what I was passionate enough about to turn it into a business. It turned out it was staring me right in the face whenever I went into my closet.”
While she loved meeting & helping new people and the adrenaline rush, corporate sales were the ultimate unpredictable rat race. Every year it seemed as if there was an adverse change in the pay structure and corporate structure, dramatically changing the role she originally signed up for. She constantly felt like she had no control. So she turned to organize to feel a sense of calm and completion. The first week of March 2020, she put in her two weeks at her current job for a life-changing position at what she thought was her “dream job.” A week later, the world shut down, and she found herself unemployed and unable to start her brand new sales job due to the pandemic.
Now was the time to take control. Courtney started to create a plan to start her own organizing company. Once things opened up in July 2020, she realized that losing everything was the best thing that ever happened to her. Otherwise, she would have never found her true passion and “dream job.”
“The most rewarding thing is using my passion for impacting my client’s day-to-day life. The sense of excitement & relief my customers experience is what I strive for every day.”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a learning process along the way. As professional organizers, we like systems and repetitive processes. The biggest challenge is learning to be flexible. Every job, every employee, every client, and every space is different, and you have to be a creative solution provider. I’m thankful for a sales background because it helped me skyrocket my business from the start. I came from corporate sales, where I was in a hunting position and would find new clients. In this position, I only have so much control to wait for the client to reach out to us by utilizing & investing in a diverse range of marketing and networking campaigns.
