Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Blackwell.

Hi Donna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Hermitage, Tennessee, and moved to Mount Juliet at the age of 16. After graduating from Mount Juliet High School, I lived in Nashville briefly before settling back in Mount Juliet, where I now reside with my family.

My journey into the world of finance began with a passion for numbers and a determination to help others. I pursued an associate’s degree in computer accounting at Nashville Tech and furthered my studies at Middle Tennessee State University.

I started my career in finance roles at places like American Airlines and Kroger. At Kroger, one of my biggest challenges was sorting out years of unreconciled accounts, where I managed to find over $5 million in missing deposits. These roles taught me a lot about the ins and outs of financial management.

In 1989, I started Personalized Bookkeeping & Tax Services, right here in the heart of Mount Juliet. I began by e-filing taxes from a desk at my parent’s house, and my brother let me borrow his credit card to help me buy my first computer and software, as long as I paid it off, which really got the ball rolling!

Today, our office is centrally located, where we run both Personalized Bookkeeping & Tax Services and Tax Debt Relief, offering comprehensive tax, payroll, and bookkeeping services, as well as IRS tax debt relief and representation. Our dedicated in-house team, including our office dog Milo, proudly serves over a thousand individuals and numerous local businesses. My story is all about growing and adapting while staying true to my passion for helping others with their finances.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the challenges was balancing the growing demands of our diverse client base while staying true to our values. Adapting to new tax laws and technologies was part of the journey, but my priority has always been helping people through their financial challenges.

Over the years, we’ve grown our team to better serve Mount Juliet and beyond. Every difficulty has reinforced my commitment to supporting our community and ensuring our clients receive the care and attention they deserve.

What I love most about Mount Juliet is the sense of community and connection that comes with it. Having been born and raised nearby, and now raising my own children here, I’ve seen firsthand how supportive and welcoming this city can be. My kids attended school in Mount Juliet, and it’s been wonderful to see them grow up in such a nurturing environment.

The business community here is another standout feature. It’s filled with dedicated individuals who genuinely care about the success and well-being of each other and the city as a whole. This supportive network has been instrumental in both my personal and professional life, fostering a strong sense of belonging and collaboration.
