Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisa Perry.
Hi Elisa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It all started when I decided to create a free blog on WordPress after a vacation to Europe. I have incredible skills when it comes to researching and I wanted to publish all I discovered while planning our vacation, and after experiencing it, in an effort to help others out who might not like to research. Within a couple of weeks of publishing my blog, an international family travel company based in New York reached out to me and asked me if I would be interested in writing for them. I did. Eventually, I started my own personal travel blog and began writing about all the destinations I traveled to with my family. Through this blog, I learned the ins and outs of social media, I learned to market my brand, how to network, photo editing and so much more.
After being a stay-at-home mom for 12 years, I decided to take this newfound skill I had been perfecting for about six years and help small businesses in my area. I realized that even if small business owners knew how to manage their own marketing, social media platforms and content creation – they just don’t always have the time to do so. My passion has always been helping others achieve their dreams and now my job is to do this daily! I couldn’t be happier.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not! But one well worth it. I started my company in the middle of a divorce – talk about stress. Building a business while transitioning into a new life is both demanding and stressful. I signed several clients right away and was projected to make more than I anticipated the first year of my business venture. Then, one of my largest clients fell through. Okay, I figured, just a small setback. I began pounding the pavement and browsing the web for new leads to replace her. Then, along came COVID-19 and the impacts to small business owners hit hard. Most of my clients could no longer afford me and were barely able to pay employees. Eventually, I closed my business to take a 9-5 job as a marketing specialist for a multimillion-dollar company.
In the ways of God, the Universe – whichever you choose to call it, this marketing specialist job didn’t pan out. Lucky for me, I recently had someone reach out to me about social media management and consultation for their high-end spa. I began working with them and new leads began pouring in quickly. I reopened my business at the beginning of 2021 and have since been blessed to expand my menu of what I am able to offer clients.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Social Gypsy Consulting. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business is multifaceted. I am able to help brands with various needs to help keep them visible to the public and define their voice.
Social Media – I evaluate current social media platforms and provide a binder with my notes and suggestions specific to their accounts, create content for social media platforms, train small business owners on how to effectively manage their social media and also offer full social media management where I create content, post, engage on the brand’s behalf and respond to messages & comments.
Content Creation – I can write anything from a blog post to full-scale books on any subject. I have written on everything from Disney to cell phone app launch plans and announcements. I love to edit current content and create original pieces. I am currently helping to create an entire educational program for a very large sector of the population.
Marketing – I will come in and evaluate what a brand is currently doing to project its image to the public and help to fill any gaps in its plan. Whether it is adding a monthly newsletter to current subscribers or helping brands get connected with local bloggers and influencers to expand their brand’s reach – I am by their side every step of the way forming new ideas and fostering new relationships that benefit both parties in the business. Another aspect of this is creating media kits, articles for magazines, home descriptions for local realtors and so much more.
I think what sets The Social Gypsy apart from others in the field is my promise to always make any content I create – whether marketing, social media or general content – personalize with your voice. I do not have some generic, run-of-the-mill template for businesses I work with. I will meet with you several times so I can discover your voice, or target voice, and adhere to it for your pieces I create. The biggest compliment I receive is when a customer of one of my clients finds out I am the one behind a brand’s posts and voice and they are shocked. They were utterly convinced it was the owner performing the management. This means I am doing my job and doing it well.
What makes you happy?
My relationships with others. This includes my children, my boyfriend, my mom, my family and my friends. I am so grateful to have deep, meaningful moments with other humans who share moments of life with me. They all add so much to my life from encouragement to support. Whether we are watching a movie at home together or out with friends laughing while having a drink out on the town – those moments make life worth living.
