Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan Millárd .
Hi Evan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always believed that design is a way of creating feeling — creating home — and that belief really started with my mom. I was adopted from Seoul as an infant, and she filled our home with color, imagination, and warmth. That shaped everything about the way I see spaces today.
My path into interiors wasn’t linear, but every step pulled me closer to storytelling through design. I eventually launched my own studio, Millárd, where I focus on soulful, layered, highly personal interiors. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to work on incredible homes across Tennessee and beyond, collaborate with national brands, and recently join the High Point Market Style Spotters — all things I never imagined when I first started building with Legos at my kitchen table.
Today, my work blends emotion, memory, and detail. I want every space to feel like a story someone can live inside.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been smooth, and I don’t think it’s supposed to be. When you start something on your own — especially something creative — you’re constantly juggling confidence and doubt, inspiration and burnout, artistry and logistics.
There were times early on when I questioned whether I was good enough or whether I could actually build a real business out of this. Learning to trust my voice, handle the business demands, and stay centered in my creative instincts took time.
And personally, losing my mom this past year was incredibly hard. She’s the person who shaped my love of color and creativity, and navigating grief while trying to show up professionally was a challenge I didn’t see coming. But even that experience deepened the emotional backbone of my work.
Every struggle along the way has pushed me to grow, evolve, and get clearer about why I do what I do.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Millárd ?
My business, Millárd, is a boutique interior design studio rooted in the idea that great design should feel like a story — layered, soulful, expressive, and deeply personal. I don’t design for trends; I design for feeling. I’m known for rich color stories, meaningful details, and creating interiors that feel warm, elegant, and emotionally resonant.
My work spans high-end residential design, creative direction, and brand collaborations. I’ve designed homes across Nashville, Atlanta, Brentwood, Chicago, California, and Florida, and I’ve partnered with incredible brands like Pfister Faucets, Kravet, Perigold, and Currey & Co. Last year, I had the honor of serving as a High Point Market Style Spotter, which was an amazing opportunity to share my point of view on design and connect with so many talented people in the industry.
What sets me apart is the emotional depth behind the work. I design with memory in mind — the small personal details, the colors and textures that make someone feel at home, the layers that make a space feel lived in and loved. Every project has a sense of soul and intention behind it. Clients often tell me their home “finally feels like them,” and that’s exactly what I want to create.
Brand-wise, I’m proud that Millárd has developed a recognizable voice: bold yet refined color palettes, highly considered details, warm materiality, and a storytelling approach that resonates far beyond the visual.
For readers, what I’d love them to know is that my work is about more than making a beautiful room. It’s about creating an environment that supports someone’s life, energy, and memories. I offer full-service interior design, creative direction, collaborative product design, and furnishing + styling services. No matter the scale, everything comes back to one thing: creating spaces with soul.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think the industry is heading toward more personal, story-driven design and less copy-and-paste trend following. People want homes that feel like them, not what they saw on Instagram. We’ll also see more digital tools, more virtual design, and more thoughtful, sustainable choices. The through-line will be individuality and emotional connection.
