Exploring Life & Business with Hannah Brusven of The Swish Magazine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Brusven.

Hi Hannah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started The Swish as a blog back in college in 2018. At the time, I was simply writing for other young women like myself who found inspiration in the classics. As I got older, I began to notice how unusual it was to admire women like Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, and Princess Catherine when most of my peers were chasing whatever was trending online. I started writing more intentionally about why beauty, elegance, and truth still matter, and to my surprise, people were paying attention.

After college, I entered the workforce and gained experience, but I kept coming back to this idea. In 2024, I turned The Swish into a formal business, and by 2025, launched our first quarterly magazine in both print and digital formats.

Today, thousands of women from all over the world are discovering an alternative to modern women’s media in something that reflects the goodness, Truth, and beauty of womanhood from a classical perspective. Surprisingly, print magazines are on the rise again and we are proud to be at the forefront. I’m also proud to work with a small team of thoughtful writers who bring depth and joy to each issue. Best of all, I get to support other women, many of them mothers, who contribute to our mission.

I’m deeply grateful for how far we’ve come and excited for everything ahead.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting something that doesn’t fit the mold of modern media often means you’re building without a clear path to follow, which is entrepreneurship at it’s core. I’ve had to figure out everything from business operations to creative direction while being the face of the brand and staying grounded in our mission. There were seasons, especially in the beginning, where I wasn’t sure if it would work or if people would care. Financially, it was a risk to invest time and resources into something that felt so countercultural. From the beginning I committed to building this out without corporate investors so I could retain the voice. I’m grateful that I did, but that certainly hasn’t been easy.

I’ve also had to protect the integrity of the brand in a space that often rewards content that is louder, faster, or more provocative. Choosing depth and beauty over shock value is not the easiest route, but it’s the one that I know is right!

There have certainly been moments of doubt and burnout, but they’ve been matched by real encouragement. Every time I read the comments or emails from readers, from women who’ve said they finally feel seen, and from collaborators who believe in what we’re building, I am thoroughly encouraged and ready for what’s ahead.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The Swish is a print and digital quarterly magazine rooted in classical femininity. We publish thoughtful, beautifully designed issues each season for women who are looking for more than trends and surface-level content found on TikTok or Instagram. Our focus includes timeless style, literature, cultural commentary, and beauty with depth. Everything we create is meant to celebrate the Truth, goodness and beauty of womanhood, not as a performance but as a calling.

We specialize in content that is both elegant and rooted. Our readers come to us for a sense of clarity, calm, and conviction in a media landscape that often feels noisy and fleeting. What sets us apart is our commitment to quality over quantity, classical values over passing fads, and authentic encouragement over clickbait. We also remain ad-light, with around 10 percent of each issue dedicated to advertising (contrary to the industry average 70%), and free articles on the site each week so the focus stays on meaningful content and the stories we are sharing.

What I’m most proud of is the voice we’ve cultivated. Readers often tell us that opening an issue of The Swish feels like a breath of fresh air. They say it feels peaceful, beautiful, and grounded, and that atmosphere is not accidental. We strive to bring real and timeless confidence to women in a way that doesn’t really exist in the current media landscape.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We love collaboration at The Swish! We partner often with other women in our space and as they say, “A rising tide lifts all ships!” So first, we’re always looking to feature thoughtful women who write beautifully and have something meaningful to say. Whether it’s an essay, recipe, or reflection, we welcome submissions from those who share our vision for classical femininity.

For brands, we offer limited ad space and curated collaborations that align with our values. We love working with small businesses that prioritize quality, craftsmanship, and purpose. Our readers are highly intentional, and we take that trust seriously.

The simplest way to support us is by becoming a reader and following us online @theswishmagazine. You can subscribe, gift an issue to a friend, or share The Swish with women in your life who would find it meaningful. Every purchase helps us stay independent and continue creating a space that honors beauty, truth, and thoughtful womanhood. Our Autumn edition will be releasing at the end of September, and I truly believe it will be the best one yet! Learn more about our issues at https://www.theswishmagazine.com/issues
