Jake, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I went down the hardest road ever to get to where i am today currently. I had the best childhood, the best parents, and everything setup for me to have an amazing future. Instead i started down a path at 17 years old of drugs and destruction of everything around me, my relationship with my kids, my marriage, alienating myself from my family, spending long stints in jail and losing every material possession i ever had. It started off with opiates in high school and grew into heroin, and every hard drug you can think of. Over a ten year period, i cycled through more than 30 treatment centers, psych wards, and stints in jail, always hopeless and never believing that life could look any different.
Today, after almost seven years of sobriety, my life has changed in ways I never thought were possible. I’ve rebuilt relationships I once thought were lost forever, I’ve learned how to be present, and I’ve found purpose in helping others who feel as hopeless as I once did. I now have the privilege of operating treatment facilities that offer not just sobriety, but real tools to bring about a real long term change in peoples lives.
The greatest gift of my recovery isn’t what I’ve built professionally, it’s waking up each day with clarity, gratitude, and the ability to show up for others like they showed up for me. I don’t take any of it for granted. My story is proof that no matter how far someone has fallen, change is possible. Recovery didn’t just save my life, it gave it meaning.
