Exploring Life & Business with Jerica Watson of JaiJou Candle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerica Watson.

Jerica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always loved candles but I got into making them in 2018 after my second daughter was born. I was looking for something to do with my oldest daughter that we both would enjoy. We focused on aromatherapy scents to coincide with mental health.

We got great feedback on our candles and decided to work together to make a business of candle making. It has been a great experience sharing our products and knowledge of aromatherapy benefits with our customers. As we expand our goal is to broaden our line and help more people.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would definitely not say it has been smooth. It has been a great learning experience. The actual making of the candles has been the only potentially smooth part. We have had many challenges.

I would say one that could help others is our original name was partially trademarked we had struggles with standing out online because of it and ultimately had to change it. I would tell anyone starting a business to make sure to research your name and make it unique to the brand properly.

We’ve been impressed with JaiJou Candle Co, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
JaiJou Candle Co hand-makes aromatherapy skin-safe candles that you can use to light up your life and ignite the inner you.

Our candles are uniquely scented to help with sleep, relaxation, focus, and many other day-to-day self-care needs.

We offer wholesale for events and weddings. Also private labeling for those that are looking to add to their product line.

Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Finding a mentor in my industry was not as easy as others. Is important to connect with people that have a common goal-setting drive as you.

Being in The Herprenuer Network has been my biggest resource in getting guidance. When you are around like-minded people everything you needs Fall into place.
