Joshua, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hey there, I’m Josh! I’m originally from Michigan, born and raised, and I moved here with my wife almost 4 years ago to assist in planting a church, plant roots of our own, and start a family. We never rule anything out, but we hope the Nashville area is our home for a long, long time.

I knew at a young age that I would be a business owner one day. At moments throughout life, I thought to myself, “What would happen if I owned a business and what would it be?” As a child, I had wanted to sell my trading/collectible cards to get a few hundred bucks. In my sophomore year of high school, my friends and I started a record label that didn’t live long enough to see even a single meeting. Even just a few short months ago, I tried to start “my” own life insurance business under the umbrella of a bigger company.

Even though none of these opportunities worked out, I learned from each experience. Through every trial and error, I became: More knowledgeable, more strategic, wiser, more confident, and more aware of what I could accomplish. I saw a quote recently that said, “Don’t worry about failure; you only have to be right once.” And that gave me the last little push I needed to start my company, JG Payments.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road leading up to where I now have certainly not been smooth or easy. I’m sure many people in their 20s can relate to not knowing what to do as a career for the rest of their lives, and I’m no different. To begin with: I’ve worked in several vastly different job industries, I’ve tried to start two different types of businesses, and I’ve barely broken even which I consider being a major blessing.

The next obstacle is that I’m not a natural-born salesman; I love talking to people and forming relationships, but I am an introvert at heart. So I’m having to get out of my comfort zone, which is a necessity for personal growth. I also have to remember I’m not necessarily selling anything, but I am giving a service that will be greatly beneficial to businesses trying to cut down on any costs they can and grow faster than they thought possible.

Lastly, I’ve been reaching out to many professionals in different industries to ask questions about what has helped them and their careers in order to gain as much knowledge as possible. Having a smooth road doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going in the right direction, but I feel like I’m heading to a good destination.
