Exploring Life & Business with Katie Osborne of Katie O Coordination

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Osborne.

Hi Katie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started as an elementary school teacher. On Sundays, I would serve as a coordinator for the church I attended. Some of my friends there were getting married in 2013 and asked me if I could help them coordinate, so I agreed. Word got out, and I started doing more weddings for friends at church over the next few years. In 2018, one of the Kindergarten teachers at the school where I taught heard that I had coordinated some weddings, and asked if I would help with hers. When I left this wedding I felt so exhausted, but so full of joy that I new I needed to do something in this industry to be able to help more couples. That summer, I started my company as a side gig and way to make extra money while teaching. I quickly began feeling more passion for it and started booking more than just a few weddings. It became clear that I needed to make this a full time job and leave teaching. In 2023 I left teaching and now get to spend my days helping couples bring their dream day to life with as little stress as possible.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was definitely a challenge learning the ropes of owning a business and entrepreneurship. My experience was in education, so I had to learn the necessities of running a business. I also had to work on time management. I spent 5 years teaching 4th graders and doing 30-50 weddings a year. I was teaching all day and then in meetings or emailing in the evenings. Most weekends were filled with events. I wanted to make sure each client and all of my students got the best I could give, so I had to set boundaries in my personal life to ensure I was resting and taking care of myself. Now that I am no longer teaching, I still keep one day a week free to rest and spend time with the important people in my life.
