Exploring Life & Business with Kevin And Amalia Logan of North Star Nature Suites

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin And Amalia Logan.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
North Star Nature Suites™ began with a simple belief: the most meaningful luxury isn’t found in extravagance—it’s found in having uninterrupted time with the people you love.

In a world that rarely slows down, we wanted to create a place that does. A place where the pace of everyday life quietly falls away, allowing guests to be fully present with one another and with what matters most.

That vision was shaped by our own careers. Before North Star, Kevin spent more than 30 years in the health and fitness industry, while Amalia, founder of Matriarch Design, spent three decades designing homes rooted in the belief that thoughtful design has the power to shape how people feel. Together, those experiences taught us that our surroundings can profoundly influence our well-being and the way we experience time together.

In 2021, we left Minnesota and moved to Tennessee to bring that vision to life. When we found a secluded mountain property bordering protected wilderness outside Sparta, we knew we had found the right place.

Every decision that followed—from the architecture and interiors to the placement of each Nature Suite™—was guided by a single question: Will this help people slow down and reconnect with what matters most?

Today, the greatest reward isn’t the property itself. It’s hearing guests tell us they left feeling closer than when they arrived.

For us, North Star has never been about creating another place to stay. It’s about creating a place that reminds people that time together is one of life’s greatest luxuries.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like most entrepreneurial journeys, ours certainly hasn’t been a smooth road. Building North Star brought its share of challenges—from rising construction costs and supply chain disruptions to the countless decisions that come with creating something entirely from the ground up.

Fortunately, before construction ever began, we had already established a clear philosophy. Every architectural and design decision had been made based on one question: How do we want our guests to feel while they’re here—and how do we want them to feel when they return home? That guiding principle became our compass throughout the entire project.

When materials became unavailable or plans had to change, we weren’t simply replacing products—we were protecting an experience. As long as a new solution created the same feeling we intended, we knew we were staying true to the vision. That clarity allowed us to navigate challenges without compromising what North Star was meant to become.

Today, that same philosophy continues to guide us. As a family-owned business, we’re personally involved in every aspect of the guest experience and are constantly refining it based on thoughtful observation and guest feedback. Hospitality is never truly finished, and we believe the smallest details often leave the greatest impression.

Looking back, we’re grateful for every challenge because each one reinforced something we still believe today: when your purpose is clear, the path forward becomes much easier to navigate.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about North Star Nature Suites?
North Star Nature Suites™ is an adults-only luxury nature retreat created for couples who want to slow down, celebrate life’s meaningful moments, and spend uninterrupted time together. While many guests join us for anniversaries, birthdays, proposals, honeymoons, and babymoons, just as many come because they believe time together is something worth protecting—not just on special occasions, but in everyday life.

We’ve become known for helping couples celebrate those moments in thoughtful, meaningful ways. Whether it’s a surprise proposal overlooking the mountains, an anniversary made unforgettable with flowers, charcuterie and champagne waiting in the suite, a private waterfall adventure, a baby-moon photo shoot or simply an unhurried evening around the fire, every experience is designed to feel personal, intentional, and effortless.

What sets North Star apart is our belief that luxury is measured less by abundance and more by intention. Rather than offering more, we focus on offering better—privacy, tranquility, thoughtful design, and opportunities to simply enjoy being together. Every detail is carefully considered because we believe it’s often the smallest touches that create the most lasting memories.

Perhaps what we’re most proud of is hearing how guests experience North Star in ways we hoped they would. When we have the opportunity to visit with them during their stay, they’re often in awe of the beauty of the property, the architecture, and how relaxed, comfortable, and thoughtful everything feels. Later, after they’ve returned home, we read the notes they leave in our guest journal. Those reflections often speak less about the place itself and more about what happened because they were here—slowing down, reconnecting, celebrating a meaningful milestone, or simply returning home feeling different than when they arrived. Those are the moments that humble us most and remind us why we created North Star.

If there’s one thing we’d want readers to know, it’s this: North Star isn’t simply a place to visit. It’s a place that reminds us the most meaningful luxury isn’t having more—it’s making time for what matters most.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to us is hearing that North Star made a meaningful difference in someone’s life, even if only for a few days.

We believe time is one of life’s most precious gifts, yet it’s often the first thing sacrificed to busy schedules and everyday responsibilities. If we’ve created a place where a couple can slow down, have an uninterrupted conversation, celebrate a milestone, or simply enjoy being fully present with one another, then we’ve accomplished what we set out to do.

As owners, we have the privilege of welcoming guests, hearing their stories, and watching them experience North Star in their own way. Those conversations remind us that hospitality isn’t really about buildings or amenities—it’s about how people feel while they’re here and what they take home with them.

If guests leave feeling more rested, more inspired, or simply more connected to what matters most, that’s our greatest reward. Those are the moments that remind us why we chose this path and why we’d do it all over again.
