Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah And Lisa Selvig
Hi Leah and Lisa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We are a mother-daughter duo, Lisa (mom) started her own Interior Design Business in San Diego, CA almost thirty years ago. When she moved to Franklin, TN she started helping neighbors with their homes and her business began to take off here. Fast forward 22 years and Leah (daughter) graduated from college and partnered up with Lisa and we started our own design and staging business together. 4 years into working together we had a storage/warehouse space that we were using for our staging inventory, we transformed the space in 2 months and began having monthly events where we sold curated designer furnishings, decor, lighting, and more directly off the floor. This was at the height of the pandemic where everyone was redoing their homes and shipping times were outrageous. The concept became wildly successful to those who wanted furniture and decor quickly. The word began to filter into the community quickly and before we knew it we had outgrown our little space. We moved into a much larger warehouse that we built out, we now open twice a month to the public and each event offers something new. We want to be a resource for the community to shop unique, design-forward curated products at an affordable price! We love bringing in local artisans to highlight the beauty of artists and small businesses right here in our neighborhood! We brought in Lisa’s husband and Leah’s dad to join the family business as our Operations Director so we are truly are a family business and grateful to see where Invision started to where it is today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Ha! Smooth is not a word we would use to describe our come up and growth. Owning your own business is so challenging. It demands a lot, and we had to be patient. Finding our niche and executing our ideas took time and money. We have never had investors, so we poured everything back into the business! It definitely took years for it to pay off, but we saw the vision and the need for something like this in Nashville so we stuck it out even in the early days.
This is definitely a labor of love. We oversee every aspect of the business: from sourcing, to styling, to assembling furniture, to moving furniture, to customer relations, social media, installations, etc we do it all. Finding employees that represent your mission statement is a whole other challenge that took some time, but we are grateful to have added and continue to add people to our team to help us grow!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Invision Home + Design?
We are a one stop shop for all things home. We have a background in residential interior design, which we still do! From years of renovating, building, and styling homes we took our love for sourcing products for clients and turned into a separate business: a shop-able showroom we open twice a month! We source and curate for 15-20 vignettes in our showroom each month. We turn over and flip the showroom each event so there is always something new and different we are introducing. What sets us apart is it’s a very unique and personable shopping experience. We hand select and style everything ourselves, so it’s very design-forward. We are not a showroom in the traditional sense, we are very curated! We work each event ourselves alongside our design staff so we can help shoppers select products specifically for their home! We are very proud of the niche we have created, we love organic and lived in product, but more importantly we love this community! We love being a resource for designers and customers when they are outfitting their home.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I (Leah) grew up with an absolute creative mom who was always redoing my room. I think at one point in college I had moved to 6 different houses/apartments and my mom would take it as a personal mission to outdo my room from the last one. In the era of mason jars and reclaimed wood we were cutting down tree trunks and making them into floating shelves, and rummaging in salvage shops for old doors that were then turned into beds. My friends thought we were absolutely crazy, but now it makes for an even better story that we now work together with a design business!
