Today we’d like to introduce you to Marla Hamm.
Hi Marla, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was called to counsel at a young age. Growing up, I battled anxiety and depression without really understanding what it was or how to find help. That pain became the seed of compassion that God planted in my heart for others who are hurting. Over the years, I’ve walked through my own healing journey through temperament therapy and the truth of God’s Word. Today, I’m honored to help others do the same through Beautifully Broken Counseling Murfreesboro — a practice I purchased from Dr. Cathy Kirkland in November 2024. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to help people find the light of Jesus in their brokenness. Because I’ve learned firsthand that true healing doesn’t come from the world — it comes from Him.
What makes my approach different is that I see people as whole beings — body, mind, soul, and spirit. Healing requires more than just talking about emotions or changing behavior; it’s about aligning every part of who we are with truth and purpose. I merge biblical principles with proven therapeutic methods to create a wholistic path to healing that addresses the root, not just the symptoms. Whether it’s through nutrition and brain health, emotional awareness, or spiritual growth, I believe transformation happens when we invite God into every layer of our life. That’s what sets Beautifully Broken Counseling apart — we don’t just manage pain, we walk with you toward complete restoration.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The process has been full of challenges. I’ve faced seasons of deep insecurity and anxiety, questioning whether I was truly qualified to help others while still working through my own battles. There were moments when fear and self-doubt whispered louder than faith, and I had to learn — and I continue to learn and lean into the fact that God is the central foundation to all the details of who I am and what He has called me to do. Balancing the demands of ministry, business ownership, and family life has also brought lessons in trust and surrender . Those personal experiences throughout my lifetime have become the foundation of my empathy, a reminder that healing is not a one-time event, but a continual journey of surrender, growth, and grace.
We’ve been impressed with Beautifully Broken Counseling Murfreesboro , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Beautifully Broken Counseling Murfreesboro was founded on the belief that healing happens when faith meets practical, compassionate care. We exist to help individuals, couples, and families find the light of Jesus in their brokenness — to discover that even the shattered pieces of our lives can become something beautiful in His hands.
What makes our practice unique is our wholistic approach to healing. We don’t just focus on symptoms or surface-level change — we look at the whole person: body, mind, emotions, and spirit. Each session is designed to bring balance and renewal to every part of life, because true wellness happens when we align our thoughts, actions, and hearts with God’s truth. Our approach merges biblical principles with sound counseling methods, creating a safe and faith-filled environment for people to experience lasting transformation.
We specialize in areas such as anxiety, depression, trauma, family conflict, and marital restoration. We’re also known for our family programs like Family Foundation Fridays and our original recovery curriculum, GraceRoots Recovery, which combines biblical insight with practical tools for real-life change.
What I’m most proud of is that our brand reflects authenticity and hope. Every color, word, and message we share is meant to remind people that brokenness isn’t the end of their story — it’s where God’s healing begins. At Beautifully Broken Counseling, we don’t just counsel; we walk beside people as they rediscover peace, purpose, and identity in Christ.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
First of all my husband, Leny, and our 4 children are my constant “why.” They’ve been my cheerleaders, prayer partners, and grounding force through every season. Watching them grow and thrive reminds me every day why this work matters — to build stronger families, restore hope, and leave a legacy of faith and healing.
My father-in-law and Mother-in-law Dr. Ron Hamm and Diane Hamm have been my biggest advocates and inspirations. Ron is also a counselor through the NCCA, and a Pastor for over 40 years. Diane has been an example of true commitment , and unconditional love. Following in their footsteps is such an honor. In many ways, I feel like I’m carrying their legacy forward — continuing the work of helping people find healing through God’s design for temperament and truth. Their mentorship, encouragement, and steady belief in me have made me into who I am today.
Dr. Cathy Kirkland, who became both a mentor and dear friend. She entrusted me with Beautifully Broken Counseling and taught me the importance of leading with grace, compassion, and integrity. Her example continues to shape how I serve and counsel.
My teammate and dear friend, Tiffany Sweeley, has also played a huge role. She has been with me from the beginning. Her heart for couples and families, her warmth, and her dedication have made this work such a joy to share. Also, Justina DeBerry with TruPath Solutions has been a tremendous blessing in helping build structure and clarity as our mission continues to grow.
