Today we’d like to introduce you to Maureen Mahoney.
Hi Maureen, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Nashville about three years ago from Chicago, where using the sauna at my gym was a daily part of my routine. It supported both my physical and mental health in a really consistent way. When I moved, I suddenly lost access to that, and I realized how much I depended on it. At the time, most of the sauna options in Nashville were either infrared or very expensive, and I personally preferred the experience and benefits of traditional heat.
One Sunday, I was sitting in bed wishing I could just have a sauna delivered to my house, and that was the moment the idea truly started. At first, it was just a personal pain point I wanted to fix. Fast forward a little bit, and sauna/plunge places started popping up around Nashville, which I became a regular at. These spaces actually pushed me to move forward with MoSauna. It showed me the sauna community in Nashville, and I knew there would be real demand for something like this.
What ultimately convinced me to build MoSauna wasn’t just the wellness benefits. It was the community. Sauna creates an environment where people naturally connect. Conversations happen easily, barriers come down, and people leave feeling better in more ways than one. I saw the opportunity to build a business that combined wellness, community, and accessibility, and that is what led me to launch MoSauna.
Since launching, we have been involved in many community events across Nashville, partnering with local gyms, nonprofits, coffee shops, and small businesses to bring affordable access to wellness into everyday spaces. From pop-ups in neighborhoods to private events and corporate wellness experiences, MoSauna has become a way for people to slow down, connect, and take care of themselves together. Seeing that impact has been the most rewarding part of building the company.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There is truly no such thing as a smooth road when you start a new business, and MoSauna has been no exception. I had never done anything this entrepreneurial before, so suddenly navigating company taxes, finances, legal setup, insurance, and all of the backend pieces was completely new to me. It was overwhelming at first, but I genuinely love a challenge, and I learned quickly that building a business forces you to grow fast.
Another challenge has been learning to accept rejection. Not every outreach turns into a booking, not every partnership works out, and early on that can feel very personal. Over time, I have had to learn how to appreciate rejection, stay consistent, and trust that the right opportunities would come.
Because mobile sauna is still a new concept for many people, there has also been a learning curve around education and sales. A big part of my role has been explaining what we do, how it works, and why it is valuable. I am not naturally “salesy,” so learning how to confidently communicate value in an authentic way has stretched me.
Finally, building the business with my partner has been deeply rewarding, but it has also required learning how to communicate clearly, divide responsibilities, and navigate the emotional and professional sides of the relationship at the same time. It has pushed both of us to grow in ways we never expected.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about MoSauna ?
MoSauna is a Nashville-based mobile, wood-fired sauna and cold plunge experience focused on making wellness more accessible, social, and fun. We bring a traditional Finnish-style sauna directly to neighborhoods, events, gyms, retreats, and private gatherings, creating an experience that blends physical recovery, mental reset, and genuine community connection.
What sets MoSauna apart is our commitment to the real sauna experience. Unlike infrared or electric saunas, ours is wood-fired and built around traditional heat, which offers a deeper, more immersive sweat. We also offer a cold plunge add-on for contrast therapy, allowing guests to move between hot and cold for enhanced recovery, circulation, and mental clarity. The sauna fits 12 people at a time, making it ideal for both social gatherings and intentional wellness use. We’re super unique in that we bring the sauna to you, wherever you may want the heat.
We specialize in pop-up community events, private rentals, corporate wellness experiences, fitness and recovery partnerships, and retreats. Brand-wise, I am most proud of the community we have built around MoSauna. It is welcoming, grounding, and intentionally designed to help people slow down, reset, and connect in an increasingly busy world. I want readers to know that MoSauna is not just about sweating, it is about creating space for people to feel better, together.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think the most important qualities to my success have been adaptability and consistency. Building MoSauna has required me to stay flexible, learn quickly, and adjust constantly as new challenges come up. At the same time, showing up consistently, even when progress felt slow, is what created real momentum and long-term growth. Together, those two qualities have allowed me to keep moving forward no matter what stage the business was in.
