Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg Glenn.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in Western Washington and just moved to Tullahoma, TN in the past year. I have always been entrepreneurial and a hustler. In elementary, I sold dog treats, and in middle school, I was a livestock reseller! In high school, I was very involved in FFA and raised/showed market hogs. Starting my junior year, I worked almost full time while doing running start (going to college in place of high school) and also had some crafty Etsy businesses. I graduated HS with my AA degree and went on to have a BS in ecology from Evergreen State College by the time I was 19.
I wanted to be a wildlife biologist, but the reality of that work didn’t work for the life I wanted. I ended up working for the State of WA for about 5 years and during that time I owned a successful apparel brand (all original graphic designs sold right before I moved to TN), helped run an Artisan Night Market, helped start an event rental & experience company (The Soiree Society), and did some work on the side with email & social media marketing. I also went back and got my business degree! YES, I am insane. I like to stay busy. I should also mention that during this time I got married to my incredibly supportive husband Tony, and gave birth to our daughter Lyra.
For about the last year before moving, I worked for a company called Org Support where I helped nonprofits with bookkeeping, admin & marketing support. Once we moved to TN, I went full-time with my marketing agency, Happy Go Social. Though my business degree helped some, most of what I learned is through self-study. I am always taking courses, reading books, & listening to podcasts.
What has been unique this year, is that now most of my clients are local. I love that I can stop by their place of business in person. It is a fun change! I am very lucky that I was able to quickly build a community here through things like Beauties in Business Networking, Tullahoma Area Chamber of Commerce, BNI Elite in Murfreesboro, and Tullahoma Noon Rotary. I enjoy staying active in the community!
I also started a podcast this year that provides amazing value to small business owners. The Happy Go Social Podcast. Apple, Spotify, etc. Why did we move to TN? Totally for fun. I had been asking to move for years and my husband finally agreed. We chose TN because I had some extended family here. Tullahoma? random. I had never been to Tullahoma and my husband had never been to TN when he agreed to move. It has been the best choice for our family!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Struggles included things like the pandemic, of course, trying to balance all of the many things I have been doing and PARENTHOOD! Mom’s guilt is so real, especially working from home. It is not easy and moms are rockstars,
The pandemic is the main reason why I sold my apparel brand. The supply chain issues were just more than I wanted to deal with, so I decided to change gears.
Navigating all the things that need to be done when you are a full-time entrepreneur is tough, but I am lucky that I can have my husband home with me full-time!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Happy Go Social is all about JOYFUL & Creative marketing. You won’t find canned captions here. We are mainly run by women (& my amazing hubby is our admin). We are here for the little guys, gals, & nonbinary pals that like to have fun in their business. We take social off your plate, so you can focus on what you do best.
If it’s related to marketing, we can probably do it. Our main focuses are Facebook & Instagram management, along with email marketing (my fave!). We love email because it is severely underutilized and is a very level playing field.
Courses for the DIYer coming soon!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
If your business isn’t on social, it’s going to die out. Tough truth!
