Exploring Life & Business with Megan Grayson of Poppy & Sage Aesthetics, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Grayson

Hi Megan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a Nashville Native and started my journey in esthetics in 2011 at Paul Mitchell the School, which at the time was located in Nashville. I was able to start my career at a waxing center in Nashville where I was able to develop my skills and grow a loyal clientele for 5 years. I knew I wanted to own my own business and a friend and I left the center to start JAM Skin Company in 2017. JAM Skin grew and was able to survive the 2020 pandemic, and even won runner-up in 2020 & 2021 Best of Nashville for Best Hair Removal. My business partner decided to follow different career paths and passions and left JAM in the end of 2022 to manage a successful local plant shop.
At that point, I decided a little rebranding was in store and renamed the business Poppy & Sage Aesthetics. I was just able to expand the skin studio to have a second treatment room and have welcomed 2 new estheticians to be a part of my team.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I am not sure any business owner could ever say it was a smooth road. As an aesthetician, one thing they do not teach in school is the business side of things. There were definitely some hard lessons and many trial and errors when it came to the business and marketing side of things. To be completely honest, there are still some business lessons I get to learn after 7 years of being open.
I think in Nashville a big struggle can also be real estate. Not all land lords are created equal and not everything ends up being what you thought it would be. Locations and spaces can be quite pricey and some landlords do not think that they should keep that pricey location up to standard. I am on my fourth location as of 2020 and I can say I am very happy to have landed where I am.
I think the 2020 pandemic was tough and I am so lucky to be one of the businesses that survived it. I couldn’t have done that without my amazing loyal clientele that has stuck by my side through think and thin. We were able to make at home facial bags during the quarantine and so many clients bought them to help us be able to pay rent that month. They were banging our door down once we were allowed to see clients again.

As you know, we’re big fans of Poppy & Sage Aesthetics, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Poppy & Sage Aesthetics we specialize in body waxing and facials. I believe most of our clientele comes in for the body waxing, especially the Brazilian wax. We are able to use a hard wax that is gentle and not harmful to the skin to remove the hair. We pride ourselves on gentle, quick, and efficient waxing.
I pride myself on creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere at the skin studio. I have clients from all different walks of life and every single person is welcomed and catered to at Poppy & Sage. Whether it is your first wax, your 1,000th wax, your visit to clear up your acne, or work on aging skin, or maybe you just need a little Me time, everyone is treated the same.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success by doing something that brings you joy in all aspects of your life. Every job has hard days but if you can do what you love and have a full life outside of that, I think you are successful.
