Exploring Life & Business with Mikey & Cindy Campobasso of BosTN Builders

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikey & Cindy Campobasso.

Hi Mikey & Cindy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We met in 2014 and quickly discovered the synchronicities of our lives crossing. Since graduating from Boston College in 2007, Cindy had been managing a family real estate investment portfolio just outside Boston, MA. She oversaw and handled all the day-to-day company management, was involved with asset management, procurement, development, and construction.

Mikey had been in construction and development management since he was in high school, through college, and beyond. He started learning carpentry in his grandfather’s barn at age four. Along with having his career where he oversaw construction projects for one of New England’s largest construction companies, he was also flipping homes on his own.

Mikey joined the family company in 2017. In 2018, while running that company we also began our own company called Boston Building Contractors to help with the construction and development. In October of 2020, after completing a development project together for the family business, we decided to change up our lives in search of better weather, with hopes of a beautiful work/life balance, and moved to Nashville.

We changed our company name to BosTN Builders, keeping our Boston roots but incorporating our new home. We wanted to move to a city where we could make a positive impact in the community and be surrounded by like-minded individuals. Nashville has surpassed our expectations!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Of course, there are challenges! Giving up the security of a job you’ve had your entire adult career where you’re locked in and moving to a new city where you know next to no one (we had one connection in Nashville, the woman who saved our adopted dog’s life!) is incredibly scary. We left our families, friends to start over. It was beautiful and intense.

The biggest struggles are the emotional rollercoaster you embark on. Dealing with the highs of leads that you’re making progress and then processing and learning from the lows when they don’t pan out. We don’t consider anything a failure. There is a takeaway and a lesson from everything.

Learning how to adapt and keep moving and taking steps every day to get established sometimes feels daunting. Sticking to our core principles of being kind people, helping others, and believing in ourselves helped us immensely during times of struggle.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a husband and wife design/build construction and development company. We have an unlimited license, in general contracting in residential, commercial, and industrial construction in MA and TN. Cindy also has her real estate license in TN and is happy to utilize it to help anyone with residential or commercial real estate needs.

We specialize in anything from designing ground-up construction to new builds — multi-family, residential, additions, warehouse space, etc. If you can dream it, we can help design and build it. We do everything from the design phase, permitting, budgeting, project management, construction to completion, occupancy certificate and can offer asset management post-construction.

No job is too big or too small, if we can work with the client scheduling wise we are happy to help anyone with anything construction or building-related. We have fixed broken tile and patched leaks, we’ve also built apartment buildings. We will always return your call and hear what you have going on. We go beyond the blue tape walk-through and will stand by our work, always.

We are proud of the meticulous attention to detail and quality of our craftsmanship. We are developers ourselves so we are able to understand the owner’s and developer’s needs. Safety and respect are our top priorities on all job sites. We are proud to be a woman-owned company and contribute to the community here in Nashville.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
“All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” –Walt Disney

Based on our path and where we are today, here is what we’ve found to be the three things that are required to turn dreams into reality:

1.) Resiliency when you “fail”. Your “pop-up time” to bounce back and get going again. Adjusting and limiting the time it takes to wrap your head around the fact that what you tried didn’t work out as planned and that’s okay. Taking away a lesson from it and taking action to keep moving in the direction of your goals again.

2.) Unwavering faith, especially in yourself. So when you do “fail” know that you can tap into yourself and whatever you believe in because it’s there 100% of the time and available to lift you up and carry you to keep moving. It’s your choice to channel it!

3.) Actions, tangible progress from your efforts and production. One foot in front of the other. Sometimes we don’t even take it day by day, we go hour by hour! It doesn’t matter what you’re doing to make it happen, as long as you’re doing something.
