Exploring Life & Business with Mitch and Alyssa Miller of Nashville Cotton Candy Co

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mitch and Alyssa Miller.

Hi Mitch and Alyssa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Our father grew up in King’s Shows, aka “the carnival,” traveling with his parents and siblings across North America in the 60s. The family ran the concessions and arcade tents. Years after they retired from carni life, our grandparents held onto a few relics from the 60s: the most famous of which was the cotton candy machine. (Although there was a family rumor of bumper cars in the garage… but I never saw them). Fast forward to the 90s, where we knew we were the coolest kids as we watched our grandmother spin cotton candy at church events with a “whip and fling” that only years of experience could teach.

A few years ago we learned that cotton candy wasn’t just our history is was Nashville’s history. As the birthplace of the cotton candy machine (patented in 1897 and debuted at the world’s fair in 1904), and our home, we had an idea. Make artisan, organic cotton candy with a nostalgic spin a la Ruth Miller (our grandmother). It’s our mission to spread sweetness across the city, one cone at a time.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Nashville Cotton Candy Co?
Locally owned (sibling) business specializing in artisan organic cotton candy. We spin fresh cotton candy, live and in person, across Middle Tennessee, year-round. We have pretty cool merch, most of which features our mascot, Don Bones (a skeleton, obvi). Try our organic salted caramel cotton candy and watch your life change. You can find our local public events (i.e. Tomato Fest), private events, and special delivery days.

What are your plans for the future?
We are designing a unique cotton candy food truck experience. Watch out. Also, murals.
