Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Carter

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In October of 2020, we opened our doors as one of the few retail locations in Nashville that carried size inclusive clothing (XS-3X) for women. Since opening we have carried men’s clothing, women’s accessories, funny gifts and as of 2024 kids clothing. After over 3 years, we have relocated to the recently opened Old Hickory Social- where we are one of seventy vendor booths to shop from! Retail has drastically shifted since the pandemic and we continue to explore new business models that serve both the community and our team in the best ways possible.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t believe entrepreneurship is ever a smooth road. I will say I’ve learned more in almost 5 years of business than I have in my 23 years of retail combined. We have survived a pandemic, a recession, a trafficless building and price increases in all aspects of the business. We are still here providing the same fun and celebratory items that we opened with, so we’re thankful to be so supported by our clients both old and new.

We’ve been impressed with This is the Finale, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are unapologetically us. We have created a space at the table for everyone. Finding plus size clothing is often a challenge, but it’s one we never give up on. We seek quality for great prices, we don’t get behind fast fashion because we care about environmental waste. There’s a rumor out there that plus size clothing costs more per garment, it doesn’t. It’s a choice brands make to either support an underserved market or not to. We continue to and always will.

We have always been known for our statement pieces, our fun details and gifts that make you laugh out loud. I think the thing that brings me the most joy is hearing someone laugh out loud at an item we carry or receiving dms of pictures of our clients in our pieces. Spreading joy brings me joy. Making people feel seen and beautiful in a world that often doesn’t will always be a goal of mine.
