I never meant to start a company. I just wanted to protect my loved ones with something that’s stylish and discreet. I and my best friend started the company as a class project after a scary experience I experienced. After searching for discreet safety devices, I found a gap in the market. All the panic buttons were big and ugly, not even my 80-year-old grandmother wanted to wear them.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wish I could say starting a company was a smooth road but there have always been challenges along the way!

Raising funding as a 21-year-old was probably one of the biggest challenges I faced. So many investors discriminated against me and my business partner because of our young age.

One investor said we’d be out of our mind to think that they’d invest in someone so young. Instead of focusing on our impressive backgrounds (like my dual degree in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering), they were fixated on my age.

Thankfully, we were able to find the right investors who believed in us and our mission to create a safer world.

What does success mean to you?
To me, the definition of success is making an impact on people’s lives.

One of the main reasons I started invisaWear is because the statistics surrounding sexual assault are horrifying. One out of every 5 women is sexually assaulted every single year. This is highly unacceptable and needs to change. I declined a six-figure job opportunity with one of the top tech companies in the world because I wanted to do something about these horrible statistics. I couldn’t just live my life knowing how many women are attacked each year and do nothing about it.

The best part of my job is hearing success stories from people who’ve used the product. There’s no better feeling in the world than knowing you were able to help someone during a scary situation.

We continuously get thank you notes from survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse who are able to sleep at night knowing that our product will protect them if they need it.
