Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Johnson.

Hi Teresa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I opened the first Painting with a Twist in Tennessee in 2010 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I started my entrepreneurship journey in 2005 by purchasing a paint your own pottery studio in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, in 2005. After success in Murfreesboro with Painting with a Twist, I opened the Nashville location in January 2017. West Nashville has been a great place to be over the last five years!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Entrepreneurship, by definition, is full of struggles along the way. 2020 and COVID-19 ranks, not only as one of the biggest challenges for Painting with a Twist but for Nashville and the country. Other than that, just the regular bumps and bruises. However, nothing beats the feeling of making a difference in people’s lives!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Painting with a Twist?
We are a class-based studio where you bring your beverage of choice (“twist) and we provide the paint and fun with step-by-step instructions from a local artist to complete a painting in two hours. We have almost daily classes and also specialize in private parties for celebrations such as baby showers, bachelorette parties, birthday and anniversary celebrations! We are part of a 300-unit franchise system with locations all over the United States. The company was founded in New Orleans right after Hurricane Katrina to provide the community with some fun in times of despair.

We are a company that believes strongly in giving back to the community with monthly events called Painting with a Purpose where half of the class registration fees are given to non-profits. What makes you happy?
Making an impact in people’s lives makes me happy. What does that look like? Fundraising through Painting with purpose events, providing a fun and entertaining environment for two hours for a customer dealing with cancer, seeing a customer at a Paint your own Pet class successfully painting a portrait of a lost pet, seeing families spend time together laughing and painting – these are all things that make me happy!
