Today we’d like to introduce you to Theresa Harper
Hi Theresa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In December 2022, I relocated to Nashville from Illinois, where I initially began my fitness journey. Following my retirement from a demanding 25-year career, I embarked on a path of self-discovery and inner peace. Despite maintaining a strict fitness regimen and mindful diet during my career, I grappled with persistent stress, anxiety, depression, and sleep issues. Seeking more profound solutions, I delved into holistic well-being in May 2022, integrating Yoga and Pilates into my routine. These practices became the foundation of my daily life, fostering physical health and inner balance.
The transformation was profound, leading me to share my newfound sense of peace and balance with others. With years of experience teaching Pilates and Yoga, I found fulfillment in guiding others on their paths to well-being. I envisioned more than a fitness studio; I longed to create a space radiating tranquility, welcoming individuals as part of a harmonious family.
“In my quest for a name, I found inspiration in my son’s birthstone, the Blue Topaz. This gemstone carries the essence of tranquility and balance, much like the journey I have embarked upon. To make it even more personal, I incorporated a silhouette of my niece into the gem’s design, a poignant reminder of the importance of family bonds.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Switching from a career in law enforcement and moving from Northern Illinois to Tennessee are two big changes, and each comes with their own set of challenges. Challenges don’t always make for smooth roads but I know what I want and I work hard to achieve my goals!
I knew I was ready for new opportunities, and Nashville was the perfect place to start. I’ve always loved hiking in the mountains of Tennessee and knew I wanted to locate near them while also being a part of a city that continues to draw new people in, and one that has a growing fitness industry. Nashville provides both for me. When I relocated, I started teaching at Yoga Six in Bellevue and Well Body Pilates in Hendersonville, both of which I still love teaching at.
I decided to branch out, start my own business and chose to open Blue Topaz Yoga. The industry is competitive and I’m working to build connections through networking, events, and social media. I’ve never had Facebook or Instagram until I moved here so learning the ins and outs of social media is their own unique challenge. All the challenges I’ve had will ultimately lead me to my goal of a retreat in the mountains! Through it all though, the ups and downs, I’ve met so many amazing people and couldn’t be happier with the path I’m on.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Blue Topaz Yoga, we come to you. What makes us unique is we tailor each class to the clients individual needs, working with all levels. Making everyone feel comfortable and confident in their practice.

Blue Topaz strengthens the physical body through yoga / Pilates, while Modern Hippie enhances the energetic body with coaching, offering both private and group sessions.
