Exploring Life & Business with Tresa Halbrooks of LEGACY Consulting, PR & Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tresa Halbrooks.

Hi Tresa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The most recent chapter of my journey began in 2012 when I launched LEGACY Consulting, PR & Events in Nashville, TN. Throughout my career, I have always been passionate about helping others build their brand in order to create a meaningful and lasting legacy. LEGACY Consulting, PR & Events is a boutique firm aimed at working with a diverse range of clients—from professional athletes and entertainers to small businesses and non-profit organizations.

Before starting my own company, I spent 11 years directing public and player relations for the Tennessee Titans. There, I had the privilege of shaping the public image of some of the most well-known athletes in the country. I worked on everything from managing their community appearances to producing special events and foundation efforts. One of the most rewarding parts of that role was being able to guide these athletes not only in their professional endeavors but also in their personal growth to help them become better men, both on and off-the-field.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with some incredible individuals—from celebrities and executives to community leaders. My goal has always been to help people understand the power of a positive image and how they can leverage it to make a real difference in their lives and in the community. I had that conversation over and over with athletes — about how they wanted to be remembered when it was all said and done. Those conversations and that philosophy is what led me to name my firm LEGACY. For me, it’s the foundation of the company I’ve built — creating a meaningful legacy that leaves a lasting positive impact on the world.

I’ve also had the honor of contributing to some of Nashville’s most iconic events and public relations efforts. Over the years, I’ve worked alongside some of the most talented individuals in sports, entertainment, and hospitality, which has allowed me to not only grow professionally but also to give back in a way that aligns with my core values.

I love the journey God has allowed me to travel. It’s been a blessing to do work with people and projects your passionate about. God is good.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to success is never easy—it’s more like a gravel path filled with speed bumps, detours and unexpected roadblocks.

Throughout my career, many of the biggest changes I made were not by choice, but because circumstances pushed me in a new direction. Whether it was a company closing its doors or a department being downsized, I quickly learned that change is inevitable. Adapting to it was never comfortable, but I always tell my entrepreneurial clients, “Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.” It’s a mantra that’s helped me push through those tough moments.

The silver lining, though, is that each transition, no matter how difficult at the time, ultimately led me to a better opportunity. Every time I stepped out of my comfort zone and took that leap of faith; it elevated my career. There were definitely moments of fear and uncertainty—like standing on a diving board, hoping there’s enough water below to catch you—but I’ve learned that without risk, there’s no reward. I’ve also learned to trust that the path I’m on is part of a bigger plan, God’s plan, and that makes all the difference.

My favorite scripture is Jeremiah 29:11 that says: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

That is the truth. He is the only way.

Whether we’re executing a strategic public relations campaign, developing a new brand identity, or helping clients align with a charitable cause, we believe in crafting personalized approaches that address each client’s unique needs. We don’t subscribe to a “one-size-fits-all” philosophy because we know that every client is different.

Our diverse client base includes corporations, small businesses, non-profits, athletes, artists, and media personalities. Because each client has distinct goals, our strategies are tailored to reflect their unique story and industry. We respect the individuality of every sector we serve and take pride in creating solutions that truly make an impact.

What drives us is our passion for service—both to our clients and to the community. Over the past two decades, I’ve had the privilege of guiding some of the most renowned celebrities in shaping their personal image and philanthropic efforts. I’ve also had the honor of helping hundreds of athletes across the country refine their public personas, and our work continues to evolve with every client we serve.

For over 25 years, I’ve been fortunate enough to play a role in some of Nashville’s most notable community efforts and fundraising events — raising millions of dollars for the city and those in need. I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with talented individuals across sports, entertainment, and business to make a meaningful difference. To us, it’s not just about making a difference—it’s about helping our clients create their own lasting legacy, whatever that may be.

I’m incredibly humbled that my efforts have been recognized throughout my career such as the Nashville Business Journal’s Top Forty Under 40, the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Emerging Leaders Award, NBJ’s Women of Influence Award, and The Tennessean’s Top 40 Under 40. I’m also proud that our events division, LEGACY Events, has earned a reputation as one of the top event production companies, receiving the Best in Business Award for Event Production and Best Event Planners.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
The challenge in finding a good mentor, is that successful people are very busy, right? This type of a relationship requires a thoughtful, intentional approach that goes beyond simply asking for advice. I have found the best way I can mentor someone is through our internship program. I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to work with a number of young women that I’ve watched grow into true professionals. It’s a truly rewarding experience. I have former interns that will text or email me from time to time to tell me they’re still impacted in their daily work from their time working with me. It’s honestly one of the most rewarding things for me.

For that reason, it’s important to start early and try to identify individuals who inspire you, not just based on their success, but also their values, work ethic and leadership style. You have to take the initiative by engaging with them in ways that feel authentic—whether that’s through attending industry events, offering help on projects, or reaching out with specific questions or insights. Be transparent with them and tell them what your interest is so they know your intent. Build the relationship gradually by showing genuine interest in their experiences and being open to both learning and sharing your own journey.

But it’s essential to be patient and give the relationship time to grow. Mentorship can take many forms, so seek one that’s aligned with your personal and professional goals—whether it’s a formal arrangement or internship or a more organic, ongoing exchange among colleagues. The key is to approach the relationship with mutual respect, clear communication and a commitment to learning and growth.
