Today we’d like to introduce you to Zii Davis.
Hi Zii, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Absolutely! Well, my story is really one of turning my own challenges into tools for other women.
I’ve always believed in the power of beauty and faith to build confidence — but I didn’t always have the knowledge or support to get there myself. I started as a self-taught makeup artist, helping friends and family feel beautiful for special occasions. Over time, that passion grew into me becoming a professional makeup artist, educator, and now founder of my own brush line, Matter Brushes — designed especially for beginners who want makeup to make sense.
But my story isn’t just about makeup — it’s about mindset, too. After walking through my own seasons of loss, motherhood, and personal reinvention, I realized that women needed more than a pretty face — they needed spiritual strength and community. That’s how my album Crowned Affirmations and my book The Mental Gym were born — tools that help women strengthen their faith, guard their mental health, and actually follow through on their goals.
So today, my mission is simple: I help everyday women build confidence — whether it’s with a flawless face, a clear mind, or a vision they won’t let die. I’m proud of where I am, and I know this is only the beginning.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road — but I believe the bumps built my strength and made my story worth telling.
Like many women, I’ve had to navigate seasons of deep grief, motherhood, single parenting, financial uncertainty, and just the weight of doing it scared. I’ve lost people I love, I’ve had to rebuild my confidence more than once, and I’ve felt the pressure of showing up for others even when I wasn’t sure how to show up for myself.
In business, it’s been trial and error — launching things that flopped, figuring out how to stand out, and learning how to turn what I know into tools that really serve people.
But through every setback, my faith has grounded me. Those struggles became my message — they gave me compassion, they made me resourceful, and they gave me a fire to teach other women how to push through their own hard seasons too.
So no, it hasn’t been smooth — but it’s been worth it. And I know the best is still unfolding.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about I am Zii, Inc.?
Of course! I am Zii, Inc. is the heart of everything I do — I call myself The Confidence Strategist because my mission is to help women master both their makeup and their mindset.
My brand sits at the intersection of beauty, belief, and results. On the beauty side, I’m known for teaching everyday women how to do makeup that looks good in real life — not just online. Through my Matter Brushes line, my online courses, and my Beauty for Us University (makeup academy), I break down makeup step-by-step so beginners can finally feel confident doing their own face at home.
But confidence is deeper than what you see in the mirror — it’s rooted in how you think. That’s why I also guide women in strengthening what’s underneath — their mind, faith, and daily habits. My book The Mental Gym and my accountability community The Visionary Circle help women build mental resilience, stay aligned with their vision, and actually follow through.
And beyond individuals, I also serve organizations as a keynote speaker and workshop facilitator, helping teams strengthen trust, accountability, and personal vision. My sessions combine practical tools, mindset shifts, and real-life action plans that help groups not just talk about results but actually get them.
What sets me apart is that I don’t just teach — I walk with people through real life. I blend practical tools, spiritual principles, and tangible strategies because confidence isn’t just about how you look; it’s about how you show up — for yourself, your family, or your team.
I’m most proud that whether it’s a woman in her bathroom learning her brows or a team leader wanting to grow her people, my brand I am Zii, Inc. leaves people equipped and encouraged to step up fully, beautifully, and boldly. That’s the impact I stand for — and I’m just getting started.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Honestly, the most important lesson I’ve learned is that you can hold heartbreak and hope at the same time — and that it’s possible to keep moving forward, even when you don’t feel strong.
Losing my daughter’s father, while raising her forced me to grow up spiritually and mentally in ways I never planned for. It taught me that grief doesn’t care about your plans — but neither does God’s purpose for you.
I learned how to fight for my own mind daily — to protect my peace, honor my emotions, and keep showing up for my daughter, my community, and my calling.
Motherhood taught me that my daughter is watching how I get back up, not just what I do when life is easy. And my faith taught me that even when I felt too weak to stand, God never stopped holding me up.
Now, everything I teach about makeup, mindset, or vision is rooted in that lesson: you can look beautiful, build a business, raise a child, grieve deeply, and still rise — if you guard your mind and anchor your hope in something bigger than yourself.
That’s the heartbeat of everything I do: helping women know they’re not powerless, even when life feels heavy. And that strength is still unfolding in me every day.
