Today we’d like to introduce you to Abigail DaSilva.
Hi Abigail, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started for me in 2020 pre-pandemic when my brother needed help with creating a sales pitch for this app he has been working on. In the process of doing that we realized that we could really take this thing on the road. I worked in sales, customer service, and hospitality throughout college so I gained a lot of experience. However, how I became the Director of Marketing for Edesia still to this day baffles me. I have always had a passion for the creative process. I have been creative my entire life and I say creative because it was never in just one particular avenue. I went to Tennessee State University for design and graduated in 2019, and when I graduated I worked a few interior design jobs, but wasn’t really fulfilled in it. When my brother reached out to me to jump aboard and bring my creativity to the Edesia start up I was at a point in my life where I really had nothing to lose. I just graduated and was working at jobs I hated, so I mean what could be the worse thing that could happen. So I betted on myself, and here we are 2 years later and our Food Truck Radar app is launched into both Apple and Android app stores. So to be specific our app helps people locate, order, and review food trucks for food adventurers (that’s our version of foodies). Then for Food Truck owners we offer them the opportunity for people to locate their truck wherever they are in real time, display their menu and add changes in real time, receive feedback from their customers, and mobile ordering capabilities. We have worked so hard to get here, and I am so proud of the work and the marketer I have became.
Now one of my most proudest moments with our company is my Go-To-Market strategy. I wanted to create a way where people can first hand get the experience of Edesia in a setting in which I felt was the most useful. So I created a festival called Food Trucks N’ Chill where I partnered with local indie film makes and food trucks to create a drive-in movie event. It was a huge success we sold out and made connections with new food trucks and was able to build relationships with Nashville food trucks even though our company at the time was primarily in Memphis, TN.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been an easy road. Getting funding for our company was extremely hard. We did pitch after pitch and even entered the app into a few different hack-a-thon competitions. Honestly, we still find challenges now learning how to communicate with food truck owners, and figure out what their needs are and how we can use technology to bridge that gap. As someone who is growing into a talent that I’ve never had experience with I believe trusting my creativity and my ability is so hard for me. Because I didn’t go to school for marketing I never felt confident, but over there 2 years I have received so many opportunities outside of Edesia to help people market. My friends trusted my vision and my ability to create. One of my closest friends/clients calls me a “renaissance woman” because there really is no end to what I am capable of.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Edesia is a mobile app that is designed to make food truck business easier and more efficient. Utilizing the Edesia app, customers can locate trucks, place orders in advance, check in to see when their order is ready, and leave reviews.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Going through the creative process and bringing an idea to life. I love every part of the creative process, but I think my favorite thing about it is the challenge to think more and more out of the box. Every time I’m trying to beat my last idea or use my last idea and see how I can build upon that to make it even more creative.
