Hidden Gems: Meet Alena Vaughn of Triple Crown Bakery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alena Vaughn

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I went to Culinary School in San Francisco in 1998. From there I worked in Hotels, Restaurants, and Bakeries.
My husband was in the military, so we moved every 3 years or so. It was always my dream to open my own bakery, but it wasn’t possible until he retired from the Marine Corps. We settled in Franklin as his family was from Nashville, and we had fallen in love with Franklin. We opened the bakery in 2016.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were many challenges even before we opened, like finding a location that was affordable and in a desired location of the Downtown Franklin area. I got a tip from a fellow business owner friend about a little place just down the street from Main Street. We opened there pretty easily. It was only like 500 square feet. It was tiny. But I wanted to start small and not bite off more than I can chew. After 4 successful years, we were offered the house we are in now. There were many obstacles in turning an office building into a restaurant. It was frustrating to say the least, and it was during Covid!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Triple Crown Bakery?
Triple Crown Bakery is a Scratch Bakery located in Downtown Franklin, TN. We specialize in Homemade Croissants, Muffins, Scones, Cinnamon Rolls, Cookies, Desserts, Cakes and many more items. We have a tearoom where you can enjoy a casual tea, coffee or hot chocolate service anytime, or you can come in for our Afternoon Tea Service Fridays and Sundays. We have a semi open kitchen where you can see the baking process, and watch the all-woman staff create tiny masterpieces. We have been featured on The Food Network, Tennessee Crossroads, the news, and have won many local awards. We really pride ourselves in having an excellent product.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I used to be a wrangler on a ranch in Julian, CA. Hence, the nod to horses in our name.
