Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Blair.
Hi Ashley, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Sweet Momma Blair when I decided to become a stay at home mom in 2016. I needed a way to unleash my creativity while making a little bit of extra money for my family. I started off making door hangers for birth announcements and evolved from there. Fast forward to Christmas of 2019 when my husband gifted me a sublimation printer in which things have been booming ever since. My designs typically range from city apparel to pop culture to mom attire. I am in a few boutiques that are local to Saint Louis and just recently expanded Sweet Momma Blair to the Painted Tree in Franklin.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a fairly smooth road. I grew a lot faster than I expected which led to a lot of late nights working but I recently hired two people to help out. One who runs my social media a few days per week and one who tapes for me. I’ve been able to buy back a little bit of my time which has been wonderful since I’m a mother of three.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Sweet Momma Blair creates quality custom clothing with the process of sublimation. Sublimation shirt printing is a specific process of printing that first involves printing onto a special sheet of paper, then transferring that image onto another material (usually polyester or a polyester mix). The ink is then heated until it disintegrates into the fabric. Since sublimation ink chemically bonds with the material, it won’t scrape or scratch off the surface. I’m mostly known for my retro designs and fun city prints. The thing that I am most proud of is that I have built this small business from the ground up all whilst being a stay at home mom to three little ones. I want your readers to know that when they make a purchase from Sweet Momma Blair that they are getting an item made entirely in house by hand.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My husband deserves the most credit. He has supported me through all of this and even though he works full time he pulls many late nights to help my dream come to fruition. I also have to give credit to local bloggers who are willing to wear and share my items to help grow my business.
