Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Benford.
Hi Bianca, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I am a true serial entrepreneur, always looking for new ways to challenge myself and make the most of every opportunity that comes my way. I’ve been a small business owner for more than 24 years, starting as an independent master nail technician and then becoming the sole owner of a thriving full-service salon called NV Salon & Kloset.
Along the way, I also founded an online and brick-and-mortar hair extension company, NVious Hair Collection, which I have successfully run for a decade. But my entrepreneurial spirit continues. I’ve recently added a new hat to my collection as an exclusive realtor for a private construction company. It’s a challenging role, but I relish working in a new field and expanding my skill set further. Why do I take on so many roles? It’s simple. I believe in living life to the max, taking every opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. And I’m passionate about inspiring others to do the same.
How I started:
● My journey started during my first year of college when a life event made me realize the need for a job that could offer full-time pay and the flexibility to attend classes. That’s when I decided to pursue a career as a licensed Nail Technician and start my own nail service business. I continued to participate in college while building my brand as a businesswoman and saving to protect my credit.
● After graduation, the job market was challenging, but my income was more lucrative than any job offer. I became an independent contractor, growing my nail business and brand. Eventually, a real estate opportunity presented itself. That’s when I opened NV Salon & Kloset a premier full-service salon in the Bordeaux area of Nashville.
● As my business grew, I became interested in other areas of the beauty industry. I started my hair extension business, NVious Hair Collection, which is available online and in our showroom at the salon. I even launched a beauty blog on the Nvious Hair Collections site, sharing beauty tips, tutorials, and more.
● Real estate has always been a part of my retirement plan. Two years ago, I became the manager of all new construction projects from an admin and sales perspective for my spouse’s custom home construction and remodeling firm, D. Haley Construction LLC.
● In 2023, I’m excited to announce that I will host a Hair Extension Tour with celebrity stylist Cynthia Meadows from Florida. I’ve designed this international business tour for people who plan to start a hair extension business, taking them directly to the source for products to grow their businesses. I can’t wait to see what the future holds!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest challenge has been the economy when it comes to my salon. The doors opened in 2007 during the financial crisis, but by God’s grace, I survived. Since then we have had the pandemic and other economic disruptions that impact small businesses and especially the beauty industry.
Once your finances are strapped between a beauty service and food or the rising cost of living, that beauty service will be pushed back or out of the budget. Funding/operating capital has been a challenge as well at times which impacted delays in expanding the business at the rate that I’d hoped.
