Hidden Gems: Meet Brandon Hartwell of Molly Green

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Hartwell.

Hi Brandon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Brittany always had a dream t0 open a clothing shop and in 2011 that dream became a reality. We opened our first shop in Homewood, Alabama with Brittany’s sister, Anna Spainhour. Brittany and Anna had played dress up and sewed their own clothes from the time they were little girls. We wanted to create a brand that was different from other retail stores. Our focus is Fashion is Fun. We treat everyone that comes in the door as a friend who we get to style and help them create outfits that make them feel good. We also curate unique collections that shoppers won’t find at other stores. We are a go to shop for both a girls trip and a typical day around town.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Fail to Fail. That is a phrase we have used a lot over the 15 years of being in business. We have faced many challenges on our path to where we are today. We always try to look at obstacles and challenges as ways to learn and grow. They make us stronger at the end of the day. in 2015 or so we found what we thought was a recipe for success, we had 4 mall stores in Birmingham and Nashville that were doing well and it seemed we could just open in malls with solid foot traffic and succeed. That was not the case. We opened 2 stores in the Atlanta area and it did not go well. We had very little foot traffic, trouble staffing and extremely high rent. That set us back probably 3 years. If there was any time to quit, that would have been it. We made tough decisions to close both locations at once. We learned a ton from that experience, and what could have broke us, made us stronger.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Molly Green is a women’s fashion brand in Nashville and Franklin, TN. What began with sisters, a creative brain, and a dream has grown into a brand that still feels intimate, human, and full of heart. We’ve moved storefronts, overcome storms (actual tornadoes included), weathered growing pains, and found our rhythm in creating experiences that feel warm, thoughtful, and fun.

From our very first shop to multiple locations and a thriving online store, one thing has stayed the same: we believe fashion should feel good — joyful, wearable, expressive, and rooted in connection.

What We Believe

✨ Wardrobes & relationships
We believe building your closet and building community go hand in hand. When you shop with us, you’re not meeting salespeople — you’re meeting friends.

✨ Care, curiosity & passion
From the fabrics we choose to the fits we perfect, we stay curious. We love details, we love design, and we really love helping you feel amazing.

✨ Feel-good fashion
Bright colors, playful prints, everyday staples, and pieces that bring joy — we curate and create collections that make style easy without sacrificing personality.

✨ Sustainability in small, meaningful ways
We’re thoughtful with sourcing, intentional about longevity, and always striving to build collections that last beyond one season.

✨ Community first
We’re a Nashville brand with deep roots. We care about our customers, our team, and our neighborhoods. Service isn’t an add-on — it’s the heart of what we do.

From Our Family to Yours

Molly Green began as a family venture, and today it’s something so much bigger — a community, a sisterhood, and a team that feels like home. At the center of it all is our leadership trio:

Brittany, our Creative Director and buyer, brings the vision — the storytelling, textures, creativity, and heart behind each collection.
Brandon, our numbers-and-logistics mastermind, keeps everything running with strategy, clarity, and behind-the-scenes brilliance.
Anna, co-founder, buyer, and mentor, guides our managers with wisdom, warmth, and the kind of steady leadership that sustains our brand through every season.

Together, we’ve built something beautiful — but it’s our team who brings it to life every single day.

Two of those team members, Heather and Kelsey, have been with us for over a decade.
Heather leads our merchandising and plays a major role in shaping our buying — she’s thoughtful, creative, and the visual voice behind so much of our in-store experience.
Kelsey leads our social media and content, sharing the spirit of Molly Green with authenticity, joy, and a perfect eye for what our customers love.

Behind the scenes, Alyssa handles our web and marketing with strategy, heart, and a deep understanding of our customer and brand.

In-store, if you’ve shopped with us for a while, you’ve probably met some of our long-time store leaders — maybe they’ve helped you find the perfect outfit for an event or just added a little extra fun to your day.
We want to give a special shout-out to Elysabeth, Allison, and Grace, who have been foundational parts of our team for years. Their care, loyalty, and leadership are woven into the customer experience that makes Molly Green feel like home.

And standing right beside them is our entire team across all locations — stylists, store leaders, and support staff — the people who make Molly Green what it is. They’re the friendly faces who greet you, steam new arrivals, offer styling advice, cheer you on in the fitting room, and make every visit warm, welcoming, and personal.

Every single teammate matters. Every single person contributes to the magic. They’re not just coworkers — they’re family. And we’re endlessly grateful for their heart, dedication, and talent.

Why Molly Green?

Because we get you.

The busy mom. The student discovering her style. The traveler in town for the weekend. The woman who loves color. The woman who loves neutrals. The one who wants something special and the one who just wants something easy.

We make fashion feel fun again — approachable, uplifting, and always a little bit playful.
You’ll find friendly faces, thoughtful service, beautiful stores, and clothes that make getting dressed the best part of your day.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
There are so many lessons… People are everything. Our team defines our brand and makes it special. Every person who comes into our stores is important and keeps our brand alive and thriving.
