Hidden Gems: Meet Charlie Eblen of Single Tree BBQ

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlie Eblen.

Hi Charlie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
After the pandemic of 2020 and working for major restaurant companies for over 25 years, I decided to start my own brand. When I was a kid, I remember going to my grandfather’s farm in Bell Buckle, TN. When you pulled into the farm and looked up at the ridgeline there was one single tree that stood tall above all the others.

So, Papa George, “The Judge” (my grandfather), name the farm Single Tree Farm. We always worked most of the day, whether that was in the garden, with the cattle or horses, fixing fences, or whatever else needed to be done. But, at the end of the day, we would spend time together by the outdoor fireplace, telling stories and cooking dinner.

Through all of the years, the lessons I learned, and the laughter and love that was had around those dinner tables and fires will always be remembered and cherished. This is where my love of food, and family was born.

When I thought of starting my own brand last year the first thing that came to mind was my grandfather telling me that he had always wanted to start his own restaurant. So I knew immediately that the name of my brand and restaurant would be Single Tree – Wood Fire BBQ!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I believe that any time you are opening a business that there is always going to be challenged. But, with focus, effort, enthusiasm, and discipline you can overcome anything in the way of your success.

As you know, we’re big fans of Single Tree BBQ. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Single Tree BBQ is a veteran-owned and operated food truck and catering company. This company was born on the idea of family, food, and service. We strive to sell the best plate of BBQ every time. We specialize in low and slow BBQ. We keep all of the recipes very simple, everything is made fresh and from scratch. We want to use as many local sources and vendors as we can for all of our products.

I have been in the restaurant business most of my life and have always thought that keeping things simple and executing them perfectly is the best way to have extremely high standards. By doing this we can produce the best quality food and the best service in the industry.

We offer a variety of options on our menu, but our favorite is our hickory-smoked brisket. It takes about 16 hours to cook a brisket fully, so there is lots of love, patience, and passion that goes into getting our hickory-smoked brisket perfect every time.

What does success mean to you?
Our definition of success is very simple. After dining with us you should simply be amazed by the food and hospitality received from us. Our success is defined by how we impact someone’s life that day. Whether it’s the best plate of BBQ they have ever had or the hospitality they receive from our team!
