Today we’d like to introduce you to Christy Gonzalez
Hi Christy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Without knowing I started my cosmetology journey in high school. I was so into special fx makeup and I played sports which I wouldn’t just do ponytails in my hair, I would add braids or put my own twist to it. I had friends asking to do their hair and makeup for everyday wear or special occasions. My parents were a big support and always pushed me to follow a career I would enjoy. It really is something I love to do everyday .That’s what started my journey into cosmetology. I have a little over 6 years of being in the industry and I continue to grow and educate myself in new techniques and skills. I can’t stop because the beauty world is always evolving.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was definitely not an easy road at all. I remember my cosmetology teacher saying “the first two years as a stylist will be the hardest” she went into detail to say that 1. No one will know you or how you work 2. Clients will not trust you. She was completely right. The first two years at the salon I was at I had mostly walk in clients & such a small amount of clientele. There were days where I thought, did I choose the right career? Am I wasting my time in this? Once my two years in it seemed as if my books were always busy and I’m so grateful I haven’t stopped. Now I am a salon suite owner and about to have my first anniversary on December 4th. I take a step back and really see the improvement I’ve made in myself in both personal and career life. I tell future cosmetologists to not give up even if it sounds cliche but seriously if I had stopped I wouldn’t be where I would be today.
We’ve been impressed with Christy Beauty, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a hairstylist and lash extension tech. I specialize in balayages & color correcting, but I love haircuts with a good blowout. I work with all hair textures and most if my clientele range from very thick, long and dark hair. I focus on making sure to be very thorough with consultations and maintain your hair health before anything.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I’m a Nashville native and I love my city. I do tend to travel quite a bit but Nashville is always home and miss it. I definitely don’t like all the traffic that’s built up during the years. The best thing for Nashville is how diverse and cultural it’s become.
