Hidden Gems: Meet David Gibbs of Gibbs Financial Coaching

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Gibbs.

Hi David, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
It all began years ago after my wife and I became fully debt free. I really wanted a job that truly helped people through life. During one summer I was in a job where I must have had about 50 different conversations with strangers that ended in them giving me emotional thank yous.

All I was doing was sharing my story and how my wife and I got out of debt. I asked myself, how could I turn this into a job? It was just a few months later that I found the Ramsey Master Coach Training program and got started. Time went on and my wife got a job at Ramsey Solutions and we moved our family to Tennessee.

I became a stay-at-home dad to our 2 little boys and worked during naps, evenings, and weekends building my coaching practice. It has now been three years in Tennessee and my boys are now three and five. It has been an absolute blessing to be raising my boys while helping my clients get out of debt and change their lives and legacies.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I had always been the main breadwinner in my immediate family. When my wife got the job at Ramsey we switched roles. I loved being able to work from home but it was a big mindset shift.

I remember telling my wife that I’ll be making just as much as her in a few months but alas I had to realize that my baby boys were my actual full-time job. That mind shift happened and I am content growing my business as much as I can and being the best dad I can be.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a Financial Coach. A lot of folks confuse me with financial planners and advisors but what I do is very different.

I am more like a personal trainer for you and your relationship with money. I walk with folks and help them build the muscles and habits to have healthy finances and a good future no matter what their income is.

I walk my clients through all parts of life from destroying debt to college planning and finally legacy planning.

What I am known for is encouragement. As a coach, I love getting my clients pumped up and giving them hope when it may not feel like they are in a hopeful situation.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I am a member of the Star Wars 501st Legion which is a Non-Profit International Costuming Group. We go out there and make folks smile.

We will be at a baseball game one day and a Make a Wish Foundation event the next day. It is a lot of fun and very fulfilling. It is another way I feel like I am really helping people.
