Hidden Gems: Meet Dr. Angela Walk of Downtown Chiropractic Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Angela Walk.

Hi Dr. Walk, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I opened my chiropractic practice in downtown Nashville in 1998. My first location was in the First American building on Deaderick Street. The building changed names to the Am South building and then Regions. I later moved my office to 4th Ave, and Church Street.

Practicing in downtown proper was an amazing experience. In 25 years of private practice, I watched the city of Nashville grow exponentially. And boy, did it change.

There is nothing like being downtown and watching the crowds walk to the CMAs dressed in their best, or standing in line for a sandwich with thousands of CMA fest visitors.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest challenges with my downtown location were traffic and construction. The constant growth of the city makes it difficult to navigate downtown on most days. Parking garages were full, traffic was a mess.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My practice was unique to other chiropractic offices. Most of my patients sat at workstations and my practice specialty became finding ways to keep my patients healthy from sitting all day.

Most of my patients presented with neck and shoulder issues from poor sitting posture, and wrist and elbow strains from repetitive typing. Since my practice was in the middle of downtown, most of my patients walked to my office during their lunch breaks or before heading to the parking garage to head home.

My practice has now shifted to a foot-focused specialty due to an experience I had treated one of my patients who was training for our local Music City Marathon. I treated her foot condition effectively and she shared her results with the members of her East Nashville running group. Out of those 100-150 members, 4 or 5 had the condition and I successfully treated them as well.

I began to receive many referrals for foot and lower leg conditions and it became a specialty for me. I specialize in foot and gait mechanics and treat primarily plantar fasciitis.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Being on the boat with my family. I learned to water ski when I was 5 or 6. I grew up on the water and even today, the lake is my happy place.
