Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Evans.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Honestly, I’m shocked that I’m here.
In 2019 I was leading a thriving choral music program at Hendersonville High School and had no intention of leaving. In fact, we’d just been invited to perform in the London International Choral Festival in England and scored among the top choirs in the state but one day I was sitting on my deck at home working through a new devotional book and heard God’s voice as clear as day – “Leave teaching – that’s not where I need you..”
I followed Him immediately, right? Not exactly. In fact, I spent the next two years arguing with Him and telling Him how I was doing great work where I was. 2019 came and went, my choir performed in London, we came home, and then after spring break we were quarantined. That was hard. How do you teach choir via zoom? It was difficult but not impossible. However, throughout that entire stint I could hear Him say “this was not intended for you. I have other plans”
I went back to school in August of 2020 and it was all wrong. It wasn’t about the distancing or the masks, it was wrong in my soul. Walking in the building every morning felt like I was going to jump out of my skin but I loved the students so much and was determined to work through it. Over the course of the year it plagued me so much that it finally came to a head. I quite literally went back out to my deck, looked to the sky, and yelled “If not teaching then what?!”
I’m type A, I need a plan. If I’m not supposed to teach, what am I supposed to do? I got no answer. For months it was radio silent. All I knew was I was not supposed to continue my current job. After praying for clarity, I finally changed my prayer. My mother was a Realtor and I knew at some point I wanted to explore that, so I started to pray that God would make it clear if I was supposed to pursue a career in real estate. At first I had no answer. Spring 2021 came along and I knew if I wasn’t coming back to my job I needed to give enough notice to administration. Without any guarantee of any future income, I walked into my principal’s office and turned in my letter of resignation. I cannot begin to explain the unexplainable peace I felt leaving that office. It didn’t make any sense.
From that moment forward I began feverishly pursuing real estate. I prayed for discernment and He guided me every step of the way. I joined a wonderful local brokerage with a fabulous mentor broker (Bridgette Chamberlain) and joined a great team under the guidance of an incredibly knowledgeable Realtor, Stewart Halcomb. I hit the ground running and my prayer every single day was and still is for the Lord to put the people in front of me I’m supposed to help and take away the people I’m not.
Here we are 4 years later. I’ve just launched Evans Team Nashville and my heart is so full! Every day I get to help people. Every day I get to solve problems. Although I didn’t understand the move at the time, I know I’m doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing.
:
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was smooth in the terms of choosing my brokerage and team, but almost every single contract I had for the first two years of my career had wild, off-the-wall circumstances. In fact, I would go to seasoned agents for advice and they would tell me things like “in all my years I’ve never had that happen!” It was extremely difficult at the time but now on the back side I am SO grateful for those experiences because now I feel completely prepared for any and all situations.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
