Hidden Gems: Meet Holly Hudson of Hoo Hoops

Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Hudson.

Hi Holly, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Since high school, I have loved to throw on a pair of hoop earrings with any outfit. I quickly learned that my ears were extremely sensitive and how hard it was to find an affordable and lightweight pair of hypo-allergenic hoop earrings.

Fast forward to my senior year of college, I still ran into this problem and thought if I am having a hard time finding the perfect pair of hoops other people are too. So that is when I decided to sketch out and design what I thought would be the perfect hoop earring. This then turned into my company Hoo Hoops.

Hoo was my nickname growing up and on the lacrosse field throughout college and Hoops I knew would be my main focus. Starting out I was just selling on Instagram and Facebook while working a full-time job. Now, Hoo Hoops is my full-time job and we are in over 400 boutiques across the country.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have definitely been bumps in the road as I am sure anyone that owns a small business can say. But overcoming bumps/challenges make the journey so much more rewarding.

My favorite part of this business is seeing the joy our hoops bring to the people wearing them. Being able to pick your favorite color hoop and pairing it with any outfit to add a little boost to your confidence is so amazing to see every day.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I am not sure if I can say that “luck” plays a big role when creating a business from the ground up. When starting a brand/business you put your all into it and work your ass off to get it to succeed.

I believe that it is really how much work you put into it and the passion that you have for your brand that helps you continue to work hard every day while finding joy in every moment of your business journey.
