Hi Jasmine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Education has a deeply personal meaning in my family. My great-grandfather could only write an “X” as his signature, and my grandfather had to leave school before reaching his teenage years. Yet, their limited access to formal education never reflected a lack of intelligence, vision, or belief in what future generations could achieve.
My grandfather became one of the earliest people to introduce me to Historically Black Colleges and Universities. He spoke to me about their importance and helped me understand that education could connect me to a larger history, community, and purpose. Although he did not have the opportunity to complete his own education, he planted a seed in me that eventually contributed to my decision to attend Fisk University.
My journey to Fisk was not mine alone. It represented generations of faith, sacrifice, wisdom, and forward thinking. I carried with me my great-grandfather’s “X,” my grandfather’s vision, and my family’s determination to ensure that each generation had access to opportunities the previous generation may not have had.
At the center of that journey was my mother. She was intentional about placing me in an ecosystem where I could flourish. She made sure I was surrounded by people who loved me, challenged me, encouraged me, and helped me recognize my potential. She understood the power of family and community, leaning on the support of people like my Aunt Debbie to help provide the guidance and reinforcement I needed along the way.
My mother’s greatest gift to me was not having every answer. It was making sure I had access to the people, experiences, and opportunities that could help me find those answers for myself. She created space for me to dream beyond what our family had previously experienced while keeping me grounded in faith, kindness, and family.
Becoming a first-generation college graduate was not simply a personal accomplishment. It was a continuation of a journey that began generations before me. It reflected my grandfather’s belief in HBCUs, my mother’s intentionality, my aunt’s support, and the collective investment of a family that wanted me to flourish.
Years later, when I experienced job loss, I found myself needing to draw upon those same lessons. I remembered that progress does not always begin with perfect circumstances. Sometimes it begins with a seed, a conversation, an “X” on a page, a family member who sees something in you, or the faith to believe that an unexpected ending can become a new beginning.
I used that season to build On Task Achievement from the ground up. I took my education, professional experience, personal journey, and commitment to helping others and turned them into a business with a purpose. Building On Task Achievement required faith, courage, resourcefulness, and the willingness to create a path where one did not already exist.
Today, On Task Achievement represents more than entrepreneurship. It represents generational progress. My mother built a community around me that allowed me to flourish. I attended Fisk University, became a first-generation college graduate, and eventually created a business designed to help others recognize and pursue their own possibilities.
Through my work, I now create supportive ecosystems for students, families, professionals, and organizations. In many ways, I am extending what my family first created for me: an environment where people are encouraged, equipped, and reminded that their starting point does not determine their destination.
My story is built on faith, kindness, family, and the belief that every generation can move the next one forward. I honor my family not by focusing on what they were unable to do, but by recognizing what they made possible for me. On Task Achievement is part of how I continue that legacy and help others achieve more.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my greatest challenges was realizing that building something meaningful does not always mean receiving immediate support from the place you call home. As I worked to grow On Task Achievement, I encountered people who believed in my work but were not always willing to invest in it at the level necessary to sustain and expand the business. Learning to confidently communicate the value of my experience, services, and expertise became an important part of my journey.
Instead of lowering my standards, questioning my worth, or giving up on the vision, I expanded my reach. I leaned into professional and personal networks I had developed outside of my hometown and reconnected with people who already understood the quality of my work. Those relationships opened doors, introduced me to new communities, and created opportunities that I may not have discovered if I had remained focused only on gaining local support.
That decision required faith and courage. Expanding beyond what was familiar meant trusting that the right people, partnerships, and opportunities existed, even if I could not yet see them. Ultimately, the networks I built outside of my hometown helped lead me to Chicago, where I have continued growing personally and professionally.
This experience taught me that support may not always come from where you expect it, but that does not mean your work lacks value. Sometimes growth requires you to move beyond familiar spaces, honor the relationships you have built, and confidently take your gifts to communities that are prepared to receive them.

On Task Achievement’s mission is to provide direction towards an individual’s long term and short term goals through career development, college preparation and student-athlete eligibility education. I am most proud that the brand reflects my authentic self. I do not have to separate my values from my work or minimize parts of who I am to serve others effectively. I bring my full self to the work and create space for clients to do the same.
Brand-wise, I am especially proud that On Task Achievement does not simply tell people to dream bigger. We help them create a realistic strategy for turning those dreams into action. We meet people where they are without allowing their current circumstances to determine where they can go. Our clients leave with more than encouragement. What makes you happy?
Happiness, for me, is being able to show up as my authentic self. It is no longer feeling the need to shrink, change, or separate parts of who I am to fit into spaces that were not created with me in mind. I have found joy in embracing my full story, honoring where I come from, and allowing my faith, personality, values, and experiences to guide how I live and lead.
I find happiness in building a life and business rooted in faith, kindness, family, purpose, and authenticity. Through On Task Achievement, I have the freedom to use my gifts in a way that genuinely reflects who I am.
Happiness has also meant having the courage to grow beyond what was familiar.
Always rooted in understanding where I come from, has allowed me to carry the faith, love, strength, and lessons of my family into new spaces while continuing to discover who I was becoming. Chicago gave me room to expand my vision, build new relationships, and embrace my authentic self more fully.
Most importantly, I have learned that happiness is not measured only by recognition, location, or financial success. It is found in knowing that I remained true to myself, trusted the value of what I built, and had the faith to follow a path that was uniquely mine. It is the freedom to be fully myself while creating opportunities for others to flourish.
Happiness is having the faith to follow my own path, the freedom to live as my authentic self, and the opportunity to use my journey to help others achieve more.
