Hidden Gems: Meet Jennifer Stieber of SLK

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Stieber.

Hi Jennifer, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I began my career working as a research biochemist for a large pharmaceutical company. My passion has always been being at the forefront of new advancements in the fields of science and medicine. I left the lab to pursue a career in aesthetic medicine as a nurse practitioner. Although aesthetic medicine and pharmaceutical research are vastly different fields, they share the same commonality of generating new scientific discoveries and adopting new technologies, which is where I thrive.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
2020 was a tough year for business. SLK was shut down because of the Nashville tornados and then again because of COVID. As an entrepreneur, you anticipate all sorts of obstacles, but being unable to be in the same room as your customers is not a scenario you could ever imagine to be possible.

We pulled through, however. I built an e-commerce store for our skincare products and reallocated space and resources in our clinic for shipping and packaging. The online store is still operational today and we have a lot of customers who still use it.

As you know, we’re big fans of SLK (pronounced “silk”). For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
SLK is Nashville’s single destination for the best in skincare and beauty. We have expertly curated a selection of the most effective and essential procedures in aesthetic medicine for you all under one roof.

Founded by a biochemist, each service we offer has been carefully screened for outstanding science and results. We have done all the research and homework so our patients don’t have to, making beautiful skin simple.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I just finished reading “Count Down” by Shanna H. Swan which details how our modern world and manmade chemicals are disrupting our hormones and causing chronic health problems like reproductive cancers or infertility down the line. It was very educational regarding what household products to avoid and safer alternatives.
