Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jenny De Leon.
Hi Jenny, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was a traveling business consultant for many years. I would get up at 2 or 3 am so I could make my 5 am flight to get to the client site. I would get home (if I was lucky) around midnight or 1 am on Thursday night. I would be home for three days and then back on the road again. As you can imagine, this was a pretty hectic lifestyle! My life at that time felt like an assembly line. I was doing the same thing each week, and everything had to be timed perfectly to be able to get everything done.
When I traveled each week, I wanted to save time and frustration, so I never checked my bag and always flew with just a carry-on. This means you have to be strategic about what you pack so you can show up with what you need but still look and feel good in a professional environment. I had my clothes packed down to a system, but what I still struggled with each week was packing my skin care products. As we all know, TSA has rules about how many liquids you can bring when you fly with a carry-on, and they all have to fit in that tiny quart bag! If you are a woman who likes to keep your skincare routine intact when you travel, you know this can be a real challenge.
Back then, I didn’t have a good way to bring all my skin care products, and it took me too much time each week to figure out what I needed to bring. Some products were sold in travel-size containers, some I would refill, and everything was disorganized and messy. I never really knew what I had or how much was left. It was frustrating, and I showed up more than once, missing some of my favorite products! There really was nothing on the market that fit my needs, so I embarked on the journey of creating Repeatabl. After countless hours of research, development, and testing, I’m proud to have created a travel system that combines functionality, convenience, and sustainability. It took me six years, but I now hold four patents and a trademark for Repeatabl!
So how does it work? Repeatabl is a revolutionary travel system designed to simplify your skincare routine while traveling. It consists of a tray with six pods that securely hold your favorite skincare products in travel-sized portions, ensuring TSA compliance and organized packing when you just want to fly with a carry-on. Repeatabl comes with a built-in spatula for easy & sanitary product application. With Repeatabl, you no longer have to compromise on your skincare routine or worry about leaks and spills during transit. It streamlines the packing process, maximizes space in your quart bag, and ensures that your essential skincare products are readily accessible wherever your travels take you!
As a former traveling business consultant, I have a deep understanding of the frustration of business travelers. My vision for Repeatabl was to create a product that would empower women business travelers to create a repeatable system to bring more of their favorite skincare essentials when flying with a carry-on. By utilizing travel-sized pods that securely attach to a base tray with magnets, Repeatabl optimizes space utilization and provides an organized solution for storing and accessing your skin care products when you travel.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been an easy road, and I had so many struggles starting out. To be honest, I had no idea what I was doing (some days, I still don’t!) I had no experience with manufacturing or producing a product, so I really wasn’t ever sure what I was doing was actually the right thing that I needed to be doing!
The first hurdle was developing a prototype. I worked with a few different companies, but no one really got what I was going for until I met James at Yimper, who got it right from the beginning. I worked with James through 4 prototypes until we had the right product I was going for.
The next hurdle was figuring out how to manufacture my product. As I said, I had no background in manufacturing, so I just started researching to see what I could find. I called a few companies, but none of them really took me seriously, and those all ended up at a dead end. Then, I started researching companies that help inventors get started, and that’s where I felt my trajectory had changed. I ended up working with a company called My Product Today to get my invention manufactured. It’s been a great partnership because their whole business model is working with new inventors, and they have the contacts and knowledge about manufacturing that I didn’t have.
I decided to get my invention patented before I had it manufactured so my ideas were covered. As I mentioned, I have four patents and a trademark for my invention that took six years to achieve. A lot of the time in those six years was spent literally doing nothing but waiting to hear back from the patent office. Years would go by before I would hear anything, but I kept working on the other things that I could keep moving forward, even when I had no clue what I was doing (which was most of the time!). My mantra to myself was “just do the next logical thing”. I think that served me well during this process.
I think the biggest hurdle during this whole process was keeping a positive mindset about it all. Inventing is a lonely process. The majority of people do not know what you are going through, so they can’t really help you with anything. Yes, I had friends and family who were cheering me on and wanting me to succeed but they couldn’t relate to my struggles, so I went through a lot of it alone. I had to really work on myself and my mindset during this time to not give up. Giving up would have been the easy thing to do, but I kept going, and I’m excited about the future of Repeatabl!
