Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Muniz.
Jesse, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Prestige Personal Fitness was founded in 2007 with the intention of offering clients challenging goal-driven workouts from the comfort of their home or semi-private facility.
Initially, the company focused solely on personal training and has since expanded to yoga, pilates, nutrition, massage therapy, art therapy, and community events. The company is family-owned and operated and initially started in Chicago.
It has since expanded to Nashville, Milwaukee, and Florida. We have been recognized for our work with seniors, pre and post-natal clients, and clients with chronic disabilities.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The company has gone through ups and downs. It took about 5 years to really build the company to a comfortable clientele base and was running very smooth up until the Covid pandemic.
Once the pandemic hit the company went from seeing close to 500 client visits monthly to under 25 visits monthly. We initially put the company on hold during the pandemic and are now trying to climb our way back and basically starting from scratch.
It has been a tough 2 years but being a family business and having a passion for educating others in health and wellness we continue to work to get back to pre-Covid numbers. That has been our biggest struggle to date.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Exercise Science. Upon graduating, I received my certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA. I went to work for boutique gyms and corporate gyms.
I found that I did not enjoy these settings as the trainers would get distracted and people were being herded in and out like cattle. So I decided to start my own business where the sole focus of the trainer was on the client and the setting was not distracting.
I was somewhat of a pioneer in the in-home training movement as I started the business when it was not as popular as it is today. I also wanted to focus more on seniors and individuals with special or chronic conditions. At the time this was not the focus most trainers had.
I made a name for myself and the company working with people no one else really was at the time. I designed workouts for seniors that would not limit them to working out from a chair and focused more on balance, range of motion, and injury prevention in doing so became one of the most sought trainers for seniors in Chicago.
Today, we are not limited to seniors and individuals with chronic disabilities but they do make up a large number of our clientele base.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I have put in countless hours focusing on the clients.
We wake up at 5 am and work until 9 pm so that we cater to our client’s health and wellness needs. We continue to educate ourselves on the best plan of action for every client and cater specifically to their needs.
No two workouts are ever the same and that is what keeps our clients coming back. We are also very selective in our hiring process and hire only the most educated and certified instructors.
